So how do I get rid of the 10 now useless gift codes in my gifts list?

Also, this definately should be front page news, nod random topic in subforum. There'll be lot of pissed people when they find out that the gift codes they give away on cristmas don't actually work so it's better to at least tell them in advance to avoid double damage.

I nicely asked support to remove the five codes I got for a Dec 25-26 giveaway and JuriJ was kind enough to do so within 12 hours from asking :-)

Thanks JuriJ!!

Hopefully, they'll be able to make a script to automate that before we send in support requests en masse.

If they don't just automatically flag them for everyone more visibly as expired in the My Gifts UI (yes they show up as expired when you click on them individually, but it isn't visible until then), or just remove them to reduce the clutter at some point I think I'll fire them off a friendly support request to remove the expired Fallout codes some time in the new year once they've had a chance to relax a bit after the holidays. Low priority issue of course. :)
Maybe(maybe!) in next free game:
- X days account age minimum
- only accounts with 1 minimum real purchase
- 1 gift per account
- X days timeout

They do? I just see the usual:

Sent to [my e-mail address], bought on Dec 13, 2013
Games not redeemed yet
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics

You have to introduce the code in the Redeem Gift website.

I didn't think that was what skeletonbow meant by 'click on them individually', but maybe it was.

That's precicely my point. :) Now click on one of them and look on the right side data that pops up and it tells you the game name, and that it is an expired promotion with an apology note. But until you click on one of them, when you first bring up the web page to see your gifted codes there is no immediate way to see that these are expired codes until you click on them and wait for the game blurb to load up.

Update: Hrm, it isn't doing that now. Looks like only trying to redeem it shows that message. Either way, when you bring up your My Gifts page you just see some number of gift codes that were sent out and show as "unredeemed" which gives the false illusion they're valid still. They should say "expired" in green instead of "unredeemed" as "unredeemed" gives the impression that they can be redeemed by someone which isn't true. For people who realize that's the case it's just clutter, but I'm sure some others are likely to get angry over it thinking the codes are still valid until they give them away and the recipient tries them and reports back they don't work. I imagine it could cause some embarassment for people, especially if they are given as Christmas gifts and people sent them who do not monitor the forums at all.

Well, so much for keeping the Fallout series alive on GOG... :(

TheEnigmaticT: Due to the ever-popular "legal and licensing" reasons, we are required to disable all of the Fallout gift codes that were generated for free during the 48-hour Fallout giveaway. I know that this will probably inconvenience some of you guys, and you've got our apologies for that. Unfortunately a bunch of people were re-selling the codes and this got noticed; as is often the case, a few bad apples can spoil the fun for the rest of us.

If you actually purchased a Fallout giftcode in the past with real cash money, you should be fine to redeem if; if for some reason that doesn't work, please contact Support and they'll--as always--set you right.
Which is it:

1) the ever-popular "legal and licensing" reasons or
2) a bunch of people were re-selling the codes

If (1) you should have considered all the codes as sales and kept them valid
If (2) give us the names so we can make their lives miserable and also disable their accounts

It's a combination of the two: due to people selling free gift codes, the legal and licensing reasons came into play.

The problem is that if the sales were occurring outside of the GOG forums and the keys were traded through private communication channels like email, GOG has no way of identifying which keys were being sold and which were being legitimately used as a gift. They can obviously trace who gave a key to whom, but they can't tell if money changed hands for that purpose. A user's GOG user name will not necessarily be the same as their eBay or Craigslist one. So, in that respect, it's slightly understandable, if rather unnoble, that they had to take the nuclear option and just cancel them all.

On the other hand of course, if "selling" was essentially codespeak for any kind of distribution (as in the countless giveaways), then my sympathy for GOG's actions would drop to zero.
That's a shame. I was just about to post a few of those codes on these boards for people who didn't get the game while it was free. Little Christmas Eve giveaway if you will. Oh well...
