So I'm playing Fallout 1. The first time I did so, I created a sort of scientist medic character to heal myself but his damage output wasn't too high and I quickly started screwing up, so I've decided to create a sort of sniperish character, or a guy who's just plain good with ranged weapons.
I noticed the finesse trait increases the chance of a critical by ten percent and I figured if i took the 'more criticals' perks, I could eventually raise that to 30% and if I do targeting attacks, that would increase their chances even more so, but I'm wondering if thet trait is any good. I get a -30% damage to my ordinary attacks. I figure the -30% damage also affects targeted attacks, so if i don't get a critical, i'll end up doing less damage on my far more frequent non critical attacks.
So I'm wondering if I'm better off without finesse. If any of you has taken that trait in your characters has that helped or made things worse?

Finesse is a recommended trait according to him.

A high int, high luck rifleman with finesse, is practically a game breaker. You can kill anything that way with little to no effort.
