Fanmade Fallout the long awaited Fallout 2 mod/addon/expansion-like thing will be putting out a demo of their Fallout which will be set in the state of Texas. It looks pretty promising.
interesting, however I was hoping it was standalone. :(
I don't know how it could be standalone (i'm not a coder...) I think they are just using the basics of the originall Fallout 2 and the rest is all their own...it's sort of like an expansion pack...
yeah, it is a mod. I heard there were a couple of 2d engines that were capable of becoming fallout clones, but no one has ever actually done it (maybe attempted it).

There is (Flexible Isometric Free Engine, used to be Flexible Isometric Fallout-like Engine. Zero Projekt is making fallout like stand alone game using it. Both are still development.
shame they're not using the tech version of the van buren engine, that WAS released wasn't it? I'm not just imagining it I hope

It was early tech demo and you can download it from No Mutants Allowed. Source code wasn't released nor are there any tools available for editing it so it's pretty much useless for modders besides for mining information about fallout world.

There might not be any tools for it now, but one day they shall come.....I hope......

I'm really hoping this would change though. I'd like to play a REAL Fallout 3, or at least a game worthy enough of being called a successor to Fallout 2 :(
There was actually one, made by this Australian dude, David Mofatt. The game was called Omega Syndrome. Too bad due to poor sales, he Dave had to close down his site and stop all production on the game. It was smaller scale compared to Fallout 2, but it was fun

yeah they did. look up zero projekt. its strange how game companies dont care about what the gamers want. because since van buren died, noone (except strategyfirst) tried to do something like that. personally if van buren would have been released i would have played it non stop for a long while.(just like i did with fallout 2)
