I installed Fallout 2 which automatically comes with a HighRes patch. Whenever I launch the game from the splash screen the game starts, but is completely black. I can still hear sound, skip cutscenes and quit the game with escape but i cant see anything.
I tried changing the resolution in the f2_res.ini file but the resolution on launch still stays at 1024x768.

Can anyone help me?

EDIT: It seems to work in windowed mode, but i still want to play the game in fullscreen.

Have you installed the game with admin rights?

Under Win7 INI file you're looking for is located in such folder:
c:\Users\[user_name]\AppData\Roaming\Fallout2\[some_alphanumeric_string]\f2_res.ini

Other INI file is:
c:\GOG Games\Fallout 2\ddraw.ini

Before you'll start making changes make copy of these files.

EDIT: Oh, wait! Second INI file can be from Restoration Project so it's possible you don't have it.

If you don't want to use RP then install Unofficial Patch (strongly recommended!) from there:

Ok i figured out how to solve my problem. I'm posting this here for anyone who's had the same problem.

You need to edit the ddraw.ini file with some kind of editor (I used Notepad++).
Under [Graphics] you can change your mode. I change mine to 4 [Mode=4, in line 59] to enable fullscreen.
Some lines below (63,64) you can also change the values of

GraphicsWidth=XXX
GraphicsHeight=XXX

to your native resolution.
This solved the problem for me.
