I've searched for this issue a couple of times, but can't seem to find it anywhere in the FAQs or the forums. If I've missed it, please let me know, and sorry for the hassle in advance.

So I'm running Fallout 2 on Windows 7. The first time I played it, I suffered from no problems whatsoever, and time flew by pretty fast. I was so excited to play again, until I realized I couldn't move my mouse.

Please note that this isn't an issue with sluggish mouse movement, or stuttering of any kind. That it not the issue here. My mouse simply refuses to move, nor does it register clicking of any button of any kind.

I am not using a Logitech or any of the problem mouse-keyboard sets mentioned in some other threads. I am using the Dell Mouse/Keyboard wireless setup that came with the computer itself. It says on its label that it's a Class 1 LED product if that helps at all, but frankly I can't tell if it has any other distinguishable markings. There are so many serial numbers on the thing that it would be cumbersome to type them here. If you need a specific number, I'd be happy to look for it.

After some experimentation, I came up with the following set of conditions:

-If I use the mouse to skip the opening cinematics and credit screens, I am unable to move my mouse at all, or click it. It remains stuck in the center of the main menu.

-If I use the keyboard to skip the cinematics, or let them run their course, I am able to use the mouse perfectly fine on the main menu. However, the moment I click a button on the main menu (or click anywhere on the screen) the mouse freezes in place after a few seconds, and stops registering clicks.

-If I load up a new game the mouse remains frozen where it is, since loading a new game requires a mouse click.

-If i choose to start a new game, I get a few seconds of movement in the character select screen, before freezing.

It's my belief that clicking the mouse causes the mouse to stop functioning somehow. I'm unsure why this would be happening, since nothing would have changed from last night to today.

I should note that I have to run the game in administrator mode, because the game simply won't start otherwise. I should also mention that the mouse freeze does not affect the rest of the game, since loading a new game shows that the character is still moving idly, and the music still plays in any screen. It is simply the mouse that freezes.

Anyways, that's all I can think of that's relevant. I hope you can help, because I'm really excited to try this game. It would be a shame if I spent $10 on a product that doesn't function.

Thank you for your time!

Darkborne: I've searched for this issue a couple of times...
Have you tried playing in windowed mode? Edit ddraw.ini with notepad:
[Graphics]
;Set to 0 for 8 bit fullscreen
;Set to 4 for dx9 fullscreen
;Set to 5 for dx9 windowed
;A dx9 mode is required for any graphics related script extender functions to work (i.e. fullscreen shaders)
;Modes 1, 2 and 3 are no longer supported
Mode=0
Change to 5.

You can disable the intro, see if it makes any difference (again, edit ddraw.ini):
;Set to 1 to skip the 3 opening movies
SkipOpeningMovies=0
Change to 1.

If you don't have ddraw in your directory, you need to install sfall.
That sounds as if fallout isn't the topmost window. It renders anyway, because it's using ddraw, and just blats whatever is on top, but when you click it's some other window that recieves the input, and steals mouse focus.

Try changing the BackgroundMouse line to 1 in ddraw.ini if changing video mode doesn't work, otherwise see if you can find out which window is on top by clicking so that you lose the mouse, then hitting alt tab and seeing which window is listed first. (If it's fallout, this isn't your problem)
