I bought the GOG versions a while ago, and was playing Fallout 1 up until a couple of months ago. I decided to fire it up again last night, but as soon as it the "Please Stand By" splash screen starts, falloutw.exe errors out.

I'm running Mavericks, 10.9.2, and did try re-installing (after backing up my save files). Any ideas?

I did also try starting up Fallout 2, it crashes immediately as well. I haven't checked any of my other wine-based apps.

odd, I'm running the games on OS Mavericks 10.9 and it seems to be working just fine on my macbook pro. I wonder if there was something in the recent OS update that may have caused this to happen? Sorry man I wish I could be more helpful but I honestly would have no idea why both games are crashing on the latest version of Mavericks...

EDIT: I don't know if this will solve the issue, but the newest version of Mavericks (10.9.3) was released a few days ago, so maybe you could try upgrading to that and see if it fixes any issues? Idk if it will work but it couldn't hurt to try that option if the Fallout games are crashing on 10.9.2

I would check that real quick as something could have changed that's affecting Wine and not Fallout exclusively. Have you made any major changes to the system since the last time you played?

Yeah, it looks like it's something that's affecting Wine--not sure what, but I'm going to keep digging. It's been a while since I played, so yeah, there could have been lots happening.

Thanks, and sorry for the length of time before replying--I didn't get a notification there were replies.
same for me(((
