The outcome of the lawsuit between Interplay and Bethesda has finally been resolved:

Fallout Online (Interplay) is to cease development, immediately.
Bethesda is to pay Interplay $2m.
Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics will no longer be Interplay properties in December 2013and will become Bethesda property.
The Fallout intellectual property is wholly owned by Bethesda and they can now do with it as they wish.

Will the games remain on GOG.com?
Remains to be seen. I'd guess it's almost certain something will change anyway.
Almost certainly they'll remain in the library of those having purchased them.

Interplay will probably try to cash in the last drops with heavy discount sales during these last two years, leaving Bethesda with practically no resale value for the titles. Not that they'd really give a damn, who knows what the sales are like, but probably in the ballpark of a few thousand copies per year?

My guess.. Bethesda will gather goodwill by making them a free download.
Hope theyl'll remain in steam.
hope they'll remain on GOG too

Its kind of Sad. I have nothing against Bethesda, despite all my trepidations and concerns when I first heard they were turning FO3 in to a first person shooter/rpg, they did a damn fine job with it, not only creating a worthy addition to the series, but also making it popular again for a whole new generation of gamers.

However I love Interplay and always have, they have made some true classics, and I was really looking forward to Fallout: Online. I had hoped that Bethesda and Interplay could have come to some kind of mutual agreement, I think the Fallout Universe would have been a richer more interesting place for it.

I wonder what happens now in regards to Fallout: Online, is it lost forever? Or do Bethesda have aspirations to take over or produce an MMO of their own?

As for GOG rights, apparently Interplay selling the games on GOG, without first running it by Bethesda went against one of their contractual agreements, so I'm not sure what the future holds when Bethesda take over the originals.
QUOTE FROM WIKIPEDIA

While Interplay was permitted to sell Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics after the sale of the IP to Bethesda, the contract required all advertising, packaging and other promotional material to be sent to Bethesda for approval first, which, according to the lawsuit, was never done regarding either the Fallout Trilogy pack, or any of the releases through Good Old Games, Steam and other digital distribution platforms. Bethesda also claims that the name Trilogy constitutes unfair competition, since it suggests that the pack includes Fallout 3.

This bums me out, Interplay deserves to have a hand in Fallout. =/
Interplay is just the publisher, a bunch of suits trying to cash in on old intellectual property.

All the developers (in Black Isle Studios) that had something to do with the original Fallouts were kicked out, or left by themselves, a long time ago. A bunch of those developers then formed Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas and lots of other goodies.)

Now wouldn't it be nicer if Obsidian got the job of making the Fallout MMO?
Although by now the whole project is probably dead as something quite completely dead.
That's why, to me, the partnership with Obsidian to make New Vegas was a significant development . If Todd Howard and Frank Avellone can still get along in the future, maybe Bethesda will give Obsidian some Fallout work again.
I hope Obsidian and Bethesda can work together again like that, but only time will tell! I just hope the Fallout games stay on GOG :(
This is bad. Bethesda cant write a story to save their life. Thats why Fallout 3 was screwed the lore over so badly and New Vegas was actually a decent addition to the series.
Yeah agree to a lot of posts here. Fallout three had a garbage story. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun game. The people, places, quests, factions, etc were all badly done though. Little Town and Big Town were horrible, for example. New Vegas was much more a Fallout 3 than the actual Fallout 3. Biggest problem for New Vegas was lack of time for testing and smoothing out bugs.

I kind of hope that the MMO doesn't die and that Obsidian gets to finish/make it. Or at least let them make any future Fallout games with enough time to polish them.

Would have to say that Bethesda did have some huge improvements to characters and stuff in Skyrim though.
I'm afraid a Fallout MMO would flop and stain the Fallout series - the MMO market is saturated enough already. I think an MMO would be better suited a good few years down the line.

My biggest concern is the GOG games already on GOG - will they be removed? As far as I know GOG don't have a deal with Bethesda.

I suppose this could be a good thing - if GOG and Bethesda strike a deal we could have the Elder Scrolls games pretty soon? I don't think we'll have an announcement for a long time though.

Wouldn't be the first thing to stain the series, really. Fallout 3 gets a bit of well-deserved flak from the Fallout community, but Brotherhood of Steel (Playstation 2) was a thing which should not have been at all.
Probably right about the market saturation, but I don't think it would be the end of the world.

Are these games selling better elsewhere, and sufficiently better to be unconcerned with their sales here? Seems to me they're among the best selling titles on GOG. If anything, I think Bethesda will see it as a financial obligation to continue the existing contract at minimum.

It could well wait until contract renegotiation comes up.

I never played Brotherhood of Steel, so I can't really comment, but I know it wasn't as well received as the others. And I don't know how well the games sell on here compared to the likes of Steam. I can't see the retail releases shifting overly much, but I could be wrong. Fingers crossed!!
*does a little research*
*scratches head*
Well, okay, I guess Planescape: Torment is the more valuable property on GOG, and thus vice versa. I was conflating it with Fallout. This means I really have absolutely no idea how valuable GOG is to Bethesda now.

Aw well. I do stand by my assertion that GOG is not entirely insignificant, and that its sales potential should at least make it attractive to Bethesda for Fallout purposes.

Addendum: The PS2 game Brotherhood of Steel was, in my opinion, a steaming pile of crap.
