I can give him a .44, a hunting rifle, or the 10mm SMG. Any suggestions on which is best for him? Thanks

Don't give him the SMG...EVER. Unless of course you really like reloading your game. Of the choices you give I would give him the .44 and keep the SMG and Hunting Rifle for yourself. Probably the best weapon to give him would be the .223 Pistol when you get it.
