Empire Earth hangs up after the intro movie loads and plays with the following error:
The instruction at "0x211119d6" referenced memory at "0x0c8200f8". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.
My hardware is an ASUS EEE 1000H netbook w/2gb of RAM.
Has anyone else run into this problem?
I tried all the steps as outlined in the basic troubleshooting provided by GOG (see below).
Sent an email to GOG tech support on Friday but haven't heard anything back yet.
1) Make sure that all of your drivers are up to date, most importantly your graphics card drivers (however it's a good practice to keep all your system drivers up to date). Depending on your graphics card manufacturer, you can find those here:
www.nvidia.com (nVidia),
www.ati.com (ATI/AMD),
www.intel.com (Intel),
2) Make sure that the installer passed the file integrity check - if not, please redownload the installer,
3) Make sure you launch the game on an account with Administrator privileges,
4) See if the problem persists when you reinstall the game,
5) [DOSBox games only] Try different settings of the "Graphics mode setup" utility, found in the game's Start Menu group,
6) Turn off any non-crucial third-party programs, especially anti-virus software, as some of these can interfere with some games.
7) [Windows Vista only] Try running the game by right-clicking it and selecting "Run as Administrator" (even if you're logged onto an account with Administrator privileges).
8) [Windows Vista only] Turn off UAC (User Account Control). To do this, go into your Control Panel, go into User Accounts, click "Turn User Account Control on or off", then uncheck the option "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect my computer" and click OK.
9) Make sure DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is on the default setting ("Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services").

Same for me on an Acer One Windows 7RC, haven't logged a call yet since probably something do with my setup, gonna try it on my Laptop, but was hoping due to the low spec it would make a good netbook game, shame really.
The mentioned instruction seems to be something with the resolution.[1] Maybe you can try changing (via regedit):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SSSI\Empire Earth
The entries:
"Game Window Height"
"Game Window Width"
Set it to (hex) Width 320, Height 258 (dec 800 and 600, respectively). Then tell us if it worked.
Another try would be to disable Hyperthreading. See [2] for my source for that and instructions on how to do that.

EDIT: According to another source (that seems not very serious, though) there is a 94 percent chance it is from a registry error. Download a free cleaner (I use CCleaner) and clean the registry.

Does your computer run Windows XP home?
Have you downloaded the newest drivers for your computer? (Its Intel GMA 950 for the Asus)
Try also to download the Direct X 9 package from microsoft, may help :)
There is no problems on EE with Hyperthreading or multicore prossesors :3
Yes, I am running XP home and have downloaded the latest GMA 950 video drivers,
I also tried several different resolutions (800x600, 1024x600, 1024x768).
I currently have directx9. I guess I'll give the registry cleaning a try.
Thank you to everyone for their responses so far.

But, still download the direct x 9 pack from microsoft, it has helped me alot when some games wont work.

ok, I'll try the directx pack and post my results here. Thx for following up.
Went home on my lunch hour and tried cleaning the registry and updating the video drivers without any luck. The looks like my last chance.
If it doesn't work I wonder if GOG will give me a refund, or credit towards another game?

No, they give no refunds, that's quite clear. I also very highly doubt them giving credits for an other game... So I really hope you get to solving this issue.
(A small tip: try inquiring about it on the [url=ee.heavengames.com]Empire Earth Heaven[/url] forums, they're a helpful bunch, and who knows, maybe someone has encountered this...)
You could always try sending an other support ticket, though, if they don't answer until Friday.
EDIT: From what I've read, it indeed seems to be a display issue. On some German boards, I've read someone got this problem solved by setting their desktop settings to "Default". Maybe you could try this? (Of course, ony if you have custom settings applied.)

The directx pack didn't work and still no response from GOG. I'm not impressed with the support they provide, but for $5.99 what should I expect? I guess I'll head over to the Empire Earth Heaven forums. Once again, thank you everyone for your input.

I'm having the exact same issue on a Acer Aspire One netbook (Atom N270, GMA950 graphics.)
Just craps out after the intro screens... Looking into it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: tried uninstall/re-install and updated drivers for the graphics card... Still no go!

Tried deleting the intro movies?
I had some problem with an old computer, dont know what it was but it fixed itself after i deleted the movies.
I'm with a Netbook NC10 Samsung.
Windows 7
The game crashes after the intro movie.
I tried to run it in XP compatibility mode, and as administrator, like if I were in Vista.
I tried to change the relosution too
I deleted the 3 videos... nothing works.
The checksum was OK too.

I also haven't been able to get the game to run on my Acer Aspire One D250 (1.6 GHz Atom, 1 GB RAM, Intel GMA 950, 160 GB HD).
I have tried everything, including downloading all .NET versions, fixes, updating Windows via the Microsoft website (using XP service pack 3 here), changing the resolution to 1024 x 768, updating DirectX (using 9.0c), replacing the "low-level engine.dll" file, lowering the graphics acceleration, shutting down all non-essential processes, disabling my virus scanner, switching off my firewall (supposed to cause a problem with some configurations), and so on, and so forth.
Bottom line: the game doesn't work.
Before people start complaining that Netbooks ain't made for gaming, this is a game that was released nearly ten years ago, and I manage to play Unreal Tournament, UT2004, Warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, Sid Meier's Pirates!, and even SPORE (a 2008 game) just fine.
A search on Google turns up a large number of pages that deal with people not being able to get Empire Earth to run, including regular Desktop configurations with Nvidia cards. I remember struggling to get "Empires: Dawn of the Modern World" (which uses the same engine as EE) to run properly on my rig at home (with a GeForce card), so I imagine there's something about certain modern systems that EE (or its engine) simply doesn't like.

I have a Dell Mini 9, and I was able to find a sort of work around. If I connect to an external monitor and set the resolution to 1024 x 768 it will play fine on the external monitor. However, I am completely unable to get it to play on the main monitor, even if I swap back after launching it. So, if you have a monitor and no desktop to try it on, this will work for you.
