If you buy, or have bought, EFS on GOG, you have access to BOTH EFS Classic (with the 1.4 patch) and EFS Enhanced. If you want to keep playing your 1.4 save games, you will want to back them up before you download EFS Enhanced. You can use the GOG Classic Installer to install the classic version and keep playing those old saves.

You can see the FAQ for EFS Enhanced at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BZmmqBY2IT79puA-fi-m1ohg8cETwBv6-Ns7sdUzL6I/edit?usp=sharing

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
This is fantastic news, thank you!

Without meaning to lessen the work eveybody did on the rest of this (huge) update, auto-sentry for cargo pods is a game changer already, an immediate 500% increase in quality of life!

Amazing news of course, and it's an equally pleasant surprise to find you on these forums! Perhaps I should have checked here before pinging you on YouTube, but I'll reiterate:

Just installed the Enhanced version from GOG and noticed there's a folder with the uncompressed CD tracks under "S". Is this intended? It really bloats the install size and the game still uses the ogg tracks under "MUSIC" internally. Not that I really mind getting my hands on those superb original raw tracks, but just saying :).

Love your 1.5 Patch gameplay live streams, by the way!

I don't think I could name a bigger game-related dream, and yet, here we are!

One question though: in the original version, Symbiot could not produce new ships, which severely undermined their position as a threat. This could be fixed by hex-editing the executable file and changing one value. How does it look in 1.5? Has this been changed, and if not, can we still hack the .exe to enable Symbiot ship manufacturing?

Glad you are enjoying! One of the issues we mention in the FAQ is the problem with selecting specific music tracks. Providing the .wav files did not resolve this, but at least it lets players enjoy them as they please, rather than having to wait for the game to play them :) We might remove this folder due to the memory issue you mention, but enjoy them for now!

Oh thank you!!
Nice! I can't wait to start playing again.
As far as I could experience, WinXP compatibility has been broken irrevocably at last. It's sad of course.

1.4 (EFS Classic here on GOG) should still work under WinXP

Yes, it does. But is there any means to patch it without breaking its WinXP compatibility?

The 1.5 changes were too dramatic. In order to implement them, we had to sacrifice that backward compatibility. Calling it a patch is really a misnomer, which is why we released it as EFS Enhanced.

It's really sad, EotFS is one of my favourite games. But installing Win7-8-10 is not an option for me, because all the rest of my favourite games run on WinXP much better than on any newer OS ;)
