I attacked his shard yesterday and it was really weird in the end.
1. during the siege of his stronghold, all of a sudden my hero was just standing there on the hex and was not in siege any more, but the colour of the hex indicated still Oinor's territory.
2. next turn I moved him off the hex and then back on to restart the siege, but it just asked if I would like to claim the undefended land.
3. Then I got the message, excellent you defeated all other masters blabla
4. No reward whatsoever
5. back in the Astral, Oinor hovers with MY just conquered shard about.
p.s. he still hates me :(
