silmarill_SVK: pardon me, but why do you copy that files? i have downloaded the KeeperFX installer, pointed it to the game directory (where game.gog is) and played. no copying and no ISO mounting was necesarry... just run it as administrator, otherwise you'll get some errors when setting up the game.

devilhood: It's interesting that this method works successfully, because it specifically states in the KeeperFX to copy the files over.
It also says that the files installed on disk by original DK setup are not enough. Also, you must select the "keeper" folder from the CD content list. Selecting root folder of your CD, or selecting installation folder on disk, won't be enough.
I'll see where silmarill's suggestion gets me next time I have a chance to play. Regardless, thanks for all the assistance.
I tried using Windows 8 right-click > mount, but that gave an error saying the iso was corrupt. I'm using Daemon Tools Lite now, and it's mounting.

I have Windows 8 x64 and I believe my installation is behaving as if I didn't copy the data files.

I've followed instructions very carefully, and searched for similar problems, but with no luck.

This is what I get in the log:

Dungeon Keeper FX ver 0.4.4.1058 (standard release)

According to the log you have pasted, there are missing files in your KeeperFX installation.

Use WinCDEmu to mount the ISO. Alternatively you can try installing KeeperFX directly over your GOG installation. This method was mentioned by silmarill_SVK and it appears to be working for people.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!! YES! YEEEEEEEEEEEES!

Alright, major thanks to silmarill_SVK for his suggestion. Do exactly as he says, and if the game crashes when you try to open any of the maps, or for that matter, even the options, I KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE MIGHT BE! It's even mentioned in the readme! Windows has a service called DEP, which stands for Data Execution Prevention. Basically it stops programs from accessing your computer's memory in ways it shouldn't. What you're going to need to do is add keeperfx and keeperfx_hvlog to that.

To do this, you need to go to the start menu and right click on my computer. Select properties, then the advanced tab. The first thing you should see is Performance. Click on the settings button, then click on the Data Execution Prevention tab.

Now, you can actually opt to turn this off for all programs except windows programs, but it's probably a safer idea just to click add, go to the folder where Keeper FX is, and then add both keeperfx and keeperfx_hvlog. (You'll have to do this one at a time.) Once you've done that, hit apply and YOU ARE GOLDEN! I can confirm this works for me! YES!

This is good news! very glad you're now able to play the game :-)

I would have given up without the kind help of you and silmarill. Thank you both for your assistance. You are a great example of what gaming is about; joining together to help gamers new and old enjoy their favorite classics. If there was a button to give you both a medal or something, I'd press that thing so hard. XD

devilhood: According to the log you have pasted, there are missing files in your KeeperFX installation.

Use WinCDEmu to mount the ISO. Alternatively you can try installing KeeperFX directly over your GOG installation. This method was mentioned by silmarill_SVK and although I haven't tested it personally, it appears to be working for people.

The correct method for installation is to copy the DATA, LDATA, LEVELS and SOUND folders from the Dungeon Keeper Gold, along with the sub-folders in the game.gog ISO.
I know it says there are missing files. DATA, LDATA, LEVELS, SOUND, along with the subfolders from the game.gog.iso. I've tried copying these things multiple times. I tried re-downloading the game from gog. I already tried pasting over the GOG folder, with the same result. I just tried the subfolders obtained using WinCDEmu, same results. Could there be a Windows problem causing this?

If I'm doing something stupid that's causing this, it isn't failing to copy the files.

Install KeeperFX directly over GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold\ using the installer from here

Thanks! That worked. I was using a KeeperFX download link from reddit. Maybe that was the problem.

edit: Yeah, the version on the lubiki.pl site doesn't work even though it's labeled as the same version.

Ok as per previous thread.
I downloaded and installed to c:\ keeperfx. grabbed patch
renamed game.gog to keeper.iso.....

pointed keeperfx to the new iso mounted file..... still fails , missing .dat .col etc.

So manually dragged files... Win7 64bit.... merged didn't overwrite..... still missing .dat.col....

what install am I missing, I followed the download and install instructions!

Rather than installing to a separate folder, it is easier to install KeeperFX directly over GOG Games\Dungeon Keeper Gold\ using the installer from here

I have updated my guide with the simpler process, because so many people were having troubles with manually copying the files over.

It should be pretty straight forward now.

Many thanks for this thread! Unfortunately the downloadspeed of the installer is really slow. So I put the Installer and your guide into a torrent for faster downloading. Hope that's ok (if not, just delete this post). :)

That's great! Thank you. The more ways people have to obtain the installer + guide, the better. Just bear in mind that the guide may be updated from time to time with new information.

sten.guttormsen: Works perfectly. Thanks for the guide. I am having problems getting it to run in windowed mode. Is it possible? I can't se the option under properteries. Alt+enter does not work either
I have the same question. Is it possible to play in windowed Mode?
Yes. Though it seems to be somewhat bugged?
