oudai: Do other have problems with the third my pet dungeon? I'm getting crashes like every 5 minutes or so. I'm using the safe mode.
Bottleneck crashed multiple times for me as well. I went back over all of the tweaks I had done to DK2 to make sure everything was still in order. Somehow though, the Registry Entry of it's Engine ID have reverted from 2, back to 4.

I'm not sure how it did that, but once resetting it back down to 2, I was able to continue for the whole time it took to finish the objective from that point I crashed last.. About half an hour or so. Hope something helps.
Anyone tried virtulbox with winxp installed and 3d accel enabled? Some games run better this way.
Hello GOG forum. I hope I can help you with your Dungeon Keeper 2 woes.
Firstly my version is my original CD that I've converted to ISO, moved to a netbook than patched and no-cd added. So I can't be sure this will work. For me though its been working for a year and very few problems.

1: Create a shortcut to DKII.exe. Enter properties add -32biteverything to the end of "Target". My shortcut looks likes this;
"C:\Program Files\Bullfrog\Dungeon Keeper II\DKII.exe" -32biteverything
This clears up all graphical problems for me at the expense of a few fps. But hey, I am using a netbook.

2: In Compatibility tab of the shortcut properties select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and tick the "Disable visual themes" option.

Now try the game. I'm hoping that it will work now. If so yeah. If not...

3: Windows 7 doesn't like DirectDraw. Thankfully someone has created a nifty dll file you can stick in your application folder. Below is a link to the site plus one to a RockPaperShotgun article about it. I think this helps the videos alot.

With these settings I am running 800x600 with full graphics (including fog on the title screen). I do crash out but its not often. This works for me and again I do have the original version.

Tell me if it works for you.

That unfortunately didn't. I installed the DDraw hack as instructed, and with it installed, DK2 doesn't even launch. Launches again after I remove the hack
GoG!! DK2 Patch, WHEN !?!?

Deadrat: He he well.. to be fair the game dosnt look that good in hardware mode either:)
I still remember playing with my old geforce 4 ti and it did look a lot better :)

Should we still expect a fix to enable the hardware acceleration or are we stuck with the software mode?
Just to add to DeckardC's post about using Linux and Wine. I gave it a try today on my Alienware m11x (r1), which can't even get to the game's title screen in Windows 7.

I have to say it works extremely well in comparison to every other way i've tried to play this game recently on any computer. I've even tried it using Windows XP in VMWare/Virtualbox which either didn't work at all or performed extremely poorly.

In Wine it worked immediately with hardware acceleration in 1024x768 and I haven't had a single crash. I've had a few very minor issues and that is probably due to me using the m11x's Intel GMA chip in linux instead of the nVidia one.

I was just able to play the later levels in 1024x768, without the game being fugly, with no crashing or any significant issue.

If you're have problems with the game installing another operating system is not the greatest solution, but if you are the least bit tech savvy and want to play this game without compromise this seems to be only choice for a lot of modern systems.
Mine randomly crashes to desktop whenever I press escape to go to the menu and save. So I either have to pray it doesnt crash before I finish a level or pray it doesnt crash when i try to save lol.

It does that in software mode A LOT. Use CTRL-S to quick save and CTRL-L to quick load to avoid using the in-game menus all together.
Please don't forget about us and fix this product!
I will only buy this product when I read that it's stable on windows 7. I don't buy stuff that needs extra work to be functioning, it woul be like buying a car with some technical issue that I have to fix.

DAMN IT PEOPLE! Stop being so RIDICULOUSLY ingrateful and selfentitled. To get a thing to work properly it sometimes requires a little community-effort too, meaning that YOU people who want things to work out ALSO need to start looking for solutions to the problems, instead of doing your snobby, whiny and selfentitled complaining on end!.

Be ****ing thankful that some people want to stretch their hours to make these old games playable for you, and when they stumble onto some HEAVY problems, like this game here, do whatever you can to help out instead of pressuring them for crying out loud, that won't leave ANYONE with ANYTHING!.

Maybe there IS only one solution, dig out your shitty old hardware from back then and get to enjoying your nostalgia properly!, and how much of a problem would that be anyway ?
What, you mean I'm not entitled to my every whim because I'm me? You mean just because I can speak, people shouldn't bow and cower before me? I have to be nice!? :P

It would be nice if it worked out of the box, being what I paid for and all.

Still, speaking of "community help", be it of any help, I ran across a possible "fix" for XP's sound issues I've been having. There are issues with the QMIXER dll that are beyond the scope of the game it's self and as such GOG. (Again, it would be nice if they fixed it, as I paid for the game to work out of the box after all this time. DRM has a nasty habit of not working, and being a wrecking ball to software AND hardware integrity.)

http://404forums.net/showthread.php/2403-Dungeon-Keeper-II-Fix-for-XP

It should be noted before you blindly follow that link, I have no idea if it will work as advertised or there are no nasty surprises in the given .DLL files. (Hey, it's not open source. :P )

You might have a point, have had a point, had I not paid money for this game, and had it not said Windows 7 was supported when I did. And as for breaking out old hardware, I have none, so it's pretty big problem.

I would agree with you if this was a free game or a user-made modification to an existing game. But this is a product that was paid for, with compatibility listed on the product page. That implies that it should work for most people on the listed specs with a minimum of issues, but that is not the case. I personally have no problem messing with software to get it working and trying to help everyone else, in fact i'm weird and I enjoy that, but most people don't and just want what they paid for to work. Dungeon Keeper 2 was a huge release for GoG and is still the top selling game according to the front page, but I can't help but wonder how many first time GoG customers have bought the game, have issues because they are forced to use the horribly unstable software mode, give up and never return to buy anything else here. A release like this might pay off in the short term and have some bad repercussions in the long term.
