It usually crashes when I click on certain UI elements, like the objectives button or save game.

This is an unfortunate problem with these older games: you never know how stable they are, and you sometimes get the unsettling feeling that they might suddenly blow up in your face while you're playing.

There have been a lot of complaints along those lines. Most people with nVidia cards seem to find workarounds though. There have been a lot of threads on the forum about them. One person found that putting his desktop resolution to 800x600 prior to starting the game helped.
I have been testing several different settings, and I found that 800x600 with native desktop resolution, environment mapping, water translucency and hardware acceleration off to be stable. The cursor was also much more responsive. It looks bad, but not much worse than everything at highest settings.

Thanks.
Would just like to state that I had the same problem with Windows 7. Setting the screen resolution to minimal prior to playing indeed seemed to fix it.
Similar problem with XP. Will change resolution and see what happens.

This worked for me quite well on Windows 7, no more crashes since I set the ingame resolution to 800x600.

I wonder, if maybe many of the people who are complaining have not been doing this.
I do that, possibly because of this topic.
I've also had to reduce the processor cores my computer uses to 1 core.
Just throwin this in there. before I know about this site, I downloaded virual pc for free (I think its free, can't remember exactly). If you have access to win95 (I save everything), install that onto virtual pc, and used it for dungeon keeper 2. DK2 crashed constanly on xp, this was the most reliable way for me to get it working that I found.

I don't know if GOG version has same problems or not, haven't bought it yet. This is my all time favorite game. I hope it works all nice and simple. I'm willing to pay $6 for a chance to play DK2 without all the extra b.s. I used to have to do.

We just put out an update that should fix most of the problems related with hardware acceleration, amongst other things.
I bought it runs great on my win7 laptop. Dunno is its 64-bit or whatever. used to xp.

The latest update probably helped you avoid any problems. :) It seems to be helping many others, too.
