Why is the activation serial number important? Seems to me to run fine without activation.
That was part of the DRM on the original CD-ROM release. As the GOG version doesn't have DRM, you can ignore it.

Correct. In the original disc version you couldn't play at all without activating, but the GOG version is already unlocked.

Play on, pinball wizard! Activation definitely not required on the GOG version.
Mine stays in opening credits mode and will not let me play. I am wondering if it is because I do not have the activation key? I am running Windows 7.
