Do game files check. Twice.
Game work on Win8.1 x64 (all ver. incl. GOG Galaxy).Dont knowabout Win10. Do you update OS to latest stable build?
same problem, tried switching compatiblity to windows 8. no change.
It seem that some Win10 update broke compatibility. Some time ago. Did you set up game in game configeditor (proper settings)? Did you set up GOG dx wrapper in dxcfg.exe (differ settings)?
Try rename ddraw.dll

Dont forget to run all configurators as admin.

Updated Windows 10 (1903) and now Disciples 2 won't launch - tried compatibility changes, nothing.
Still no solution?
Try unofficial opengl + widescreen patch from: https://verokster.blogspot.com/2019/03/disciples-i-ii-gl-wrapper-patch.html
Just follow the simple installation instructions listed there. Works for me.
After a few months of not being able to run this, this patch really fixed everything that was wrong! I would buy this guy a drink if I could :)
Downloaded the patch and still won't work. I launch from Galaxy or from the folder level and get the same result. Tries to launch and just goes back to the Galaxy launch screen. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Recently did a windows updates (probably long overdue), but this seems to cause the problem.

Some have suggested renaming the "ddraw.dll" file but what do you rename it to?

Help??

to 1ddraw.dll or to _ddraw.dll

QWEEDDYZ: to 1ddraw.dll or to _ddraw.dll

Thanks for the reply. Tried to rename the file as"1" and as "_". However when I tried to run , it came up with "could not initilize the game" I guess I'll just have to give up playing that game and look for something else unless there are other solutions.

Thanks again

It doesn't matter what you rename it to as long as it's not ddraw.dll.
Besides this shouldn't be necessary - rename it back to ddraw.dll (or better yet - verify your game files), download and install the unofficial patch I linked above and then try to use settings from my screenshot (in your config editor).
Start the game from gog galaxy (not directly from .exe file or from desktop shortcut). Let us know what happens.

Thanks again for all the info. Tried that as well and same results, just goes back to the GOG galaxy screen. I'm assuming you are just saving the patch into the same file location as the .exe file without having to unzip or anything else.

I was able to load the game using some previous mentioned configurations but the window that it opened was really small and the graphics were horriable.

Well the patch I mentioned is in .7z format so yeah, you have to unpack it. Basically there are 3 .dll files inside - just copy&paste all 3 of them into the folder with disciples2.exe. Check in the configurator (my screenshot from above) if the settings are correct and give it a try.
Btw on modern computers this game's window will always be quite small unless you use 'stretch to full screen option' which I wholeheatedly recommend. With widescreen support patch it's still quite pretty.
