Alright, so I go to run Descent 3 after installation, and I get this error "Error: SetCoopLevel EXCLUSIVE failed" I am running windows VISTA.
I have tried turning off the UAC suggested in another topic, my drivers are updated. Anyone have this error before or know what it could be?

Are you running any mods or is this vanilla descent 3?

I have a Quadro FX 570m on a thinkpad t61p series and the drivers are up to date.
I found out that descent 3 apparently makes a crash or error log. Could you find this in the games folder and post the contents of the log here?

I can't seem to find where this file is located, do you know where it would be?

The file should be called "error.log" and it should be on the Descent 3 folder.
I don't know if the game starts and then crashes or if it doesn't start at all. If the game isn't initialized at all there's a chance that the error log file doesn't get created...

Thats very possible, was hoping for a bit more information on the problem as the error sounds like its actually something to do with multiplayer.
I don't know what to recommend really other then trying compatibility settings.

Yeah, i'm also having problems figuring this one.
It does sound like some multiplayer or network issue.
Other than making sure DirectX files are updated and checking if the firewall isn't getting in the way, i'm also out of ideas.
I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with multiplayer.
The CoopLevel in this case refers to how DirectX treats your computer's hardware, such as the keyboard; the exclusive flag prevents other applications from using those devices.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix it... Do you have the latest version of DirectX? What about device drivers? Vista's DirectX 10 may not be compatible, you could try installing a copy of DirectX 9.
Just some ideas.

No luck. I am not sure what this is but really is just annoying to say the least. of the three games i got from gog.com, none of them have worked.
I'd suggest you're somehow not running the game in administrator mode. The SET xxx FAILED message could be due to not having the rights to mess with certain hardware settings in Vista.
Have you tried the simple right click -> run as administrator?

Yes I tried this first.
I am extremely frustrated with the fact gog claims these games work on Vista...

I would guess for the majority of people they probably do but with any computer software different users will have completely different experiances getting things to work with different setups. If you haven't done so already I would advise contacting GOG support so they can get the game working for you.
