Another difference is that the Steam version offers the game soundtrack. It seems to be a Steam exclusive as Valve is catching on and finding new ways to get an edge over other download versions, also has Steam achievements and trading cards so ya Steam is preferable I guess. I still prefer the fan compiled soundtrack which is easy to find.
I still love my GOG version more :) It's mine, I have several backups and I can play Deadly Premonition anywhere, any time I want :)
And sadly Steam offers the soundrack as a paid DLC.
Not a Steam-hate post, but it really boils down to the things you enjoy. I couldn't care less for Steam achievements, trading cards, community features, all that jazz, so even though Steam does offer "more", the things they do give are pretty much irrelevant to those not really into it. GOG also offers "more", which means you also get the typical GOG offering for all games, that is, full DRM-free experience, being able to back up the installer and play it offline without turning to an intrusive client, on any machine you have, anytime, anywhere, plus the stellar GOG support, which is miles ahead of Steam's.

The OST available on Steam is paid DLC, so, it doesn't really matter, as the soundtrack that fans put together is way better than the official one and it's also fairly easy to find.

If Steam exclusive features are your thing, go ahead and get that version. If not, you'd be better off, as a consumer and general citizen, getting the GOG version.

JudasIscariot: Got sidetracked by MoM but now that I've beaten MoM at least once, I'll dive back into Deadly Premonition :)
Any word on the update at all?

Thanks for checking. :)
What does the latest patch on the Steam version add?

A fix.

A very minor fix. People keep talking about that patch as if it's that big of a deal. I have no problems whatsoever when playing my GOG copy of Deadly Premonition, and my computer is utter crap. I didn't even find the loading times to be that big an issue.

I still stand by what I said earlier: if you like Steam more than GOG, and prefer the overall Steam/community/social experience, then, by all means, get the game on Steam. If, on the other hand, you value DRM-free, customer-friendly practices more than sheer "practicality", and support GOG, get the GOG version. This patch isn't reason enough to say that the Steam version is "way better" than the GOG one, they're still basically the same game.

It's not likely the game will get further patches, as Rising Star has claimed the developers won't be working on the game anymore, so getting it on Steam hoping for new patches that won't come to GOG isn't worth it. The only thing is this one patch, that fixes some bug I've never even encountered or triggered (and I played Deadly Premonition a whole lot, by the way).

Thanks. But how do you avoid the box pushing puzzle?

Shame development has died for this game. Would DPfix still be developed? Or is that only so much it can do?

No idea. I don't own the game. It may be a better question, how do you trigger the box pushing puzzle? Be sure to have a save before starting. Try asking Novotnus or groze may know as well.

Don't! You'll get an awesome weapon for solving optional block pushing puzzles and you'll need to solve one to progress the story.
Just stand in the middle of the box you are pushing and you are golden - I wasn't even aware of the bug durign my first complete playthrough.
is there any news? it's on sale now and is it better than the steam version? if not i dont buy it on gog.com. normally you get fixed versions by gog.com or members thats why i buy most games on gog.com.

No, it's the same as the Steam version.
