I'm trying to run Deadlock II on Windows 8.1 (64-bit, obviously), but once the game loads to the main menu the screen goes blank. I can move the mouse around and click randomly. If I manage to hit something the game responds and the screen will flicker in and out. I've tried messing around with Windows compatibility settings, but can't seem to get it working. Any ideas?
The gog version of Deadlock 2 is not currently compatible with Windows 8 and no one has managed to get it to work properly yet, at least according to this thread: http://www.gog.com/forum/deadlock_series/woooooo_deadlock_but_i_have_a_problem
Just bought can't use. Windows 8.1 won't work.

I just started having this problem and I'm only on Windows 7. When I first bought the game, it worked just fine, but it started this same thing with me a few days ago.
I'm having the same problem on windows 7. Anybody find a solution yet?
Deadlock 2 still runs fine on my Windows 7 64-bit system. When I start the game, videos play for the introduction. I press the space bar a couple times a second for 3-4 seconds to skip past the movies. Also, to run the game, I have to click "yes" to give it admin privilege.

Do you get a prompt about allowing unknown changes on this computer? (admin privilege)
At the blank screen, what happens if you press the space bar for 3-4 seconds?
Just purchased Deadlock 2, Win7 64 bit. Same problem as described here, everything is fine up until the main menu, then as soon as the mouse moves the screen goes black.

I have tried all kinds of different compatibility settings, to no avail.

I ended up opening a ticket with support. Fingers crossed the bright folks at gog support can help me out.

Edit: I thought my drivers were current. There was actually a new NVidia driver release in Februrary, so I picked it up and -- viola! -- Deadlock 2 is now working perfectly.

Joy!

I had it working for a while on Windows 7, rolled back the drivers as the new one is what started the mess. I evenually updated again and it still worked for some reason. Now that I upgraded to Windows 10, the blanking screen is back and rolling back didn't help this time.
Since the last update of the Nvidia drivers I'm having the same problem in Win 7 64 bit. It's no longer possible to play the game.
This was actually an issue with the original CD, out of the box. Cyberlore had a patch, but the patch doesn't work with the GOG install. (Google "Deadlock 2 patch". Cyberlore's download page comes up at or near the top.)

Disappointing: I can't find my original disc, and I found it on GOG tonight. But I can't get past blanking menu screen either.
I was able to get Deadlock 2 working on Windows 10 using DxWnd. The same thing should allow it to work on Windows 8.1 also. Check out this thread:

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the programme, but the result is still the same - the intro animation plays, but the menu is black with only the blue mouse pointer visible.
Did you change any of the settings?
Since my earlier post, I've upgraded to Windows 8 and then Windows 10. Unlike before, I can no longer play Deadlock II. I've tried running "dxwnd" and read up in the forum for it, but it's still unplayable. The "dxwnd" program provides many options to enable/disable, and I've only tried a few out of dozens.
Could you try it with DDrawCompat ?

Unfortunately it seems that in v0.1.2 I partially broke the mouse cursor (leaves trails on the help screen), so I recommend using v0.1.1 or v0.1.0 for now.

Other than that, the only issue I've noticed is that occasionally the game locks up at the start of the intro video. If this happens, just press Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill it from Task Manager, then try running it again.

If you start a new thread, I can help test ddraw.dll on Deadlock II.

I installed v0.1.1 of ddraw.dll into my Deadlock game directory. It caused every screen to turn black, including the intro screens and videos that precede the main game screen. I tried this 3-4 times and it happened consistently. Note Deadlock is not actually "locked up". You can hit the space bar 5 times to skip through the intro videos and screens, dropping you at the main screen. Now move the mouse, to see if the main screen goes black. Finally, hit the ESC key to exit. In the case of the v0.1.1 ddraw.dll, after 5 space bar presses and the ESC key, Deadlock 2 exited normally. So it's not locking up, but all screens are blank.

I'd recommend starting a new thread to get people helping debug the interaction between ddraw.dll and Deadlock 2.
