I managed to find a copy of the "Capitalism Strategies and Secrets" book by Lawrence Russell and soon realised the scenarios were completely different to the Capitalism Plus scenarios.

So I've now managed to get a copy of Capitalism 1 and used the 1.10 patch (that came on a CDROM in the back of the strategy guide book) and can confirm the scenarios are much easier (and ramp up in difficulty more slowly).

The only scenario shared by Capitalism 1 and Capitalism Plus seems to be the very first "Entrepreneurial Spirit" scenario.

My only guess is that the Capitalism Plus scenarios were aimed at players who were already very competent at the game and were meant to be a challenge.

It's a pity neither GOG nor Steam have Capitalism 1 and its scenarios available to play.

That's really too bad. The scenarios in the gold version (never played the original) are indeed something. They aren't necessarily TOO hard once you figure them out, but even then it takes forever to go through even a single one, and you can't automate too much or risk losing the edge you need to stay on top. I have dozens of hours in the game, and I only finished a handful of the scenarios, finally opting to come back to the game at a later time, and perhaps playing it sparingly every few months.

From what I remember (but it's been quite a while), Capitalism 2 is also quite easier and less "gruesome" to play through.
