Hi all,

I don't want to be ungrateful and I really do appreciate GOG for bringing whole Broken Sword trilogy, and I already play first installment, but....

... but I somehow lack the feeling of the original first, non-DC version of Broken Sword. It would be very nice to have both version available through GOG.

Am I the only one?
One more person holding for the original version!

I never played the series extensively (a bit of each at friend's PCs), but kept hearing good things about it.
I was going to buy the two first games right away, but after reading about the Director's Cut, I will just get The Smoking Mirror. I don't want my first serious contact with the series be tainted by a lackluster remake.
It's a real shame, because lately I really wanted to play a classic graphic adventure I did not know by heart.
The release of the Directors Cut is very nice, but it would be really great to have also the original version here on gog.

Oh, I wouldn't call it a lackluster remake.
The game has everything the original had plus additional scenes involving Nico. True, the beginning is slower because of that BUT the additional character development you get because of that more than makes up for the slower beginning.

Yes, the hotspot-tagging is a little over the top but otherwise it's a great game with some additional scenes - no cuts.
I've asked Revolution's founder Charles Cecil via Twitter if they'd consider bringing it here and he said "We are very much considering feasibility of including original Broken Sword game as a bonus"

That would be sweet.
And it's not like it would cost them revenue, since I doubt they've been selling the original version since the Directors Cut came out.
Want to add my own approval to this idea.
Just blew through the DC in two days. As someone who's played the original more than once, having the DC with some new stuff is great, but I think it's best for new players to go with the original. The hints on the DC make it too easy to cheat, and the beginning is much worse as a new player. It would be awesome to have the choice!

I've just bought the pack, but I'm playing Sanitarium right now. I have never played any of the BS games, and the idea was to play DC as soon as I finish Sanitarium. However, the opinions I've read on GOG seem to make a lot of sense, and it seems to me that the original version is indeed better.

Maybe we all should reply to Cecil's tweet, stating that we would love to see the original version. What do you think?
im in!

Maybe, but I'm guessing if they're already considering it, they've already seen the feedback. GOG sends user feedback to the publisher/dev, anyway, so no doubt they're aware.
I can't disagree with wanting the original, I have it on DVD so personally I'm not too worried but for others out there it would make a great addition.
Hell yeah, it'd be awesome to have the original version. I don't like the horrendous clashes with graphics and audio the director's cut has.
Since people are discussing this subject here also, I wrote this in the announcement thread 3 days ago:

Well I wrote an email to Revolution and they seem pretty nice and interested in what fans think. More of you should e-mail them (politely, please, don't call DC trash). I didn't actually ask them for a key since I knew the original release is not available, I just asked them to offer it alongside the DC if it's possible, they either misunderstood or wanted to show their good will anyway. Anyway, here's the reply:

Hi Alexander,
Many thanks for your email, it is great to know that you are a fan of our games. We have approached GOG with your suggestion to see if they can do this. Unfortunately as the first game has never been released digitally we are unable to provide you with a free access code. Thank you again for your support.

Today (an hour or two ago) I got another e-mail from Revolution:

Hello Alexander,
Further to my previous email, I am pleased to inform you that Good Old Games will be offering the original version of Broken Sword as a bonus for purchases of the trilogy and possibly the Directors Cut as a standalone game. We will discuss further with Good Old Games and attempt to get a free download code for you once the game has gone live on Good Old Games.

So, sweet. Although between the first and this I finished the DC (and moved on to 2) and it was mostly fine, lol.
Totally agree to have the original one. Even with a little extra cost. But anyway, Original must be here.

P.S. Interesting... What about remake of second BS on gog?
