Hey everyone,

I've never played a game in the Broken Sword series before, and (thanks to GOG) I now have the option of playing either the Director's Cut version of the first game or the Original release.

For a first-time player, which one is superior and why? In your answers, though, please avoid discussing specific story or plot elements, since I have yet to try the game and would rather not have it spoiled. Thank you very much!
I would play the original first.

The Director's Cut, while adding story elements, detracts from the exploration/puzzles in the game by showing hot spots, best to work it all out yourself and then go back and play through with the new content.

The original for sure! Director's Cut messed up the experience for me.

Alright, thanks for the advice!
Still after finishing the original BS, I advise you to check director's cut also. The Gibbons's sketch animations are stunning.
I have a question related to this. Does the original version of Broken Sword run with the updated Director's Cut resolution? Or is it strictly low res? And if it's the later, is there anyway to pretty it up a bit?

Thanks.
Actually you can take the best of two world, what about starting the DC; finish the part with Nico and start the original game?
OK, now I'm more confused. I also have never played this first Broken Sword game; do veterans still recommend the original first? Is it then worth it to play through the Director's Cut? Also, is the original game broken (ahem) by virtue of the Director's Cut?
The original version of the game is far more difficult than the Director's Cut. Here's what changed in DC.

-Director's Cut has added scenes in that feel superfluous to the story.
-Director's Cut has overhauled visuals. And yes, the new artwork is phenomenal. I'm personally not a huge fan of the new animated cutscenes though, which are kinda jagged and awkward.
-Director's Cut is censored: there's less violence/blood and you can't die at all. Since you can't die it's a pretty easy game too.
-Director's Cut also makes it easier by having highlights on things you can interact with. The original lacks these and requires more searching/thought in order to play effectively.
-The original is better-paced. Since you don't switch between Nico and George throughout the game, the story's a bit more coherent and impressive.

Ultimately it's your choice as to what you play first. I recommend playing the original before the DC though.
Great question thread, I have yet to play this game and appreciate the info
Another question:

GOG says available game languages are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish. I assume that refers to the Director's Cut - is the included original version English only or does it allow to install those other languages, too?

And does all of that refer to voiceovers, e.g. are there voiceovers for Spanish etc., too, or just subtitles?
