Does Breath of Fire 4 work on Steam Deck?
I'd love a steam release. This way proton would handle the Deck compatibilty. No mods needed, no console command line inputs, no 3rd party tools, no nothing. Just install and hit play.
One can dream...
Won't be much help but so far on linux mint I get false starts that just crash via heroic regardless of proton version, but lutris with proton experimental plays the game mostly fine with just a borked intro video.

So potentially but it's highly likely to require some tinkering.
damn, and here i was hoping it would be smooth sailing for the Deck.. it is more or less an ideal game for the handheld
IF... only IF the game loves your CPU. Unfortunately it seems there are issues possible on modern AMD CPUs...
In my experience the games restored under the GOG Game Preservation Program don't work wrapped by Proton, but I'm hoping that changes.

None of the Resident Evil games worked on Linux with Proton in my testing (Fedora 41, Proton-GE, Nvidia 4070).

GoG is basically the only reason why I have a SSD with Windows on it. Once Linux compat improves, I can fire that SSD into the sun (or reformat it for additional Linux storage space).
I'm playing it on my Deck OLED right now. Runs just fine but as drsnodgrass mentioned, the intro video is borked. This also happens on Dragon's Dogma, which can be fixed by selecting a specific Proton version, but changing anything with this game (installed via Lutris as I can't be bothered with other launchers) makes it crash on start up.

I'm pretty new to installing games via Lutris, so I've no clue if there are any command lines that can improve the experience.

I was able to get it to install and run via Lutris but yeah, the intro video is glitched/doesn't work. Also, certain bindings are tied to keyboard (F1 for Select/Start, F9 for Quit). I haven't checked to see if you can bind these to Steam Deck buttons via Lutris.
Can confirm the game also installs and runs via the Heroic launcher.

You can create a Steam shortcut via Lutris, which will allow you to launch the game via Steam (including in gaming mode). This will in turn allow you to use the Steam controller configuration tool. I've set F1 to d-pad up for the time being.
I guess most people who are able to get the pad to work simply use this "Steam controller tool". The initial tool seems to be unstable or nearly broken, and it may not support certain controllers.
Radnor what OS and proton version are you using? Any additional winetricks or configuration? I can't get it to run under anything with heroic and that's my preferred launcher so any info would be appreciated.

I have only checked Breath of Fire 4, Resi 1 and DC1. Games run with some issues - I have no videos in Resi 1 and Breath of Fire 4 stops receiving inputs if I alt-tab out of the game.
