Devolver Digital is claiming WB has rights and has been asking for them
Not only is that awful if we want any hope of Source Port but considering that original devs have said otherwise its kind of bad of them to say he was wrong

Oh people were telling Devolver Digital on their twitter that Jason Hall said Atari had rights and so Devolver Digital basically said he is wrong WB has them

Ah, thanks. I guess I should start following the Devolver twitter.

I am ready to donate them. I am ready to pay them even 10 $. And I think that another thousands of users also do. Lets get a million or two or more, pay them and get this f*cking source code :D
It really bothers me that Blood's source code was never released. It's a goddamn tragedy to kill off this game's legacy like that. I have no doubt that Blood would have been rightly immortalised alongside Doom and Duke Nukem 3D if the source code was out. It would be far more accessible to modern gamers today and more people would realise just how great of a game it was. It's easily my favourite 2.5D shooter. I rate them the biggest of them like this:

Blood > Doom > Shadow Warrior = Duke Nukem 3D

It's not even nostalgia that makes me feel this way because for most of my life I preferred Doom to Blood - not that I didn't love Blood, I just felt the original Doom games were superior when I was younger. About a year ago I decided to replay Blood after many years and I realised just how awesome the game is. Its gameplay is fucking fantastic; the gunplay too damn satisfying. I love its atmosphere, the level design, everything about it. Sure it's not as polished as some games are but it more than makes up for it in its core gameplay. And damn, Blood had such an awesome multiplayer to boot, you wouldn't expect it but it was there. I remember when I was a kid we used to go to my rich friend's house who had a LAN set-up. One of the main games we used to play was Blood over many others including the original Quake and Doom.

Yeahhhh. I hate the way we never got this game's source code. We could have really had some awesome mods made. The worst thing is that the IP owners are just unproductively sitting on it - for 15 years! Blood 2 was released in '98 and since then we've got nothing official for this game. It's ridiculous. They're holding onto it like a bunch of greedy cash cows but they're not even doing anything with it. At least give us a Blood re-release like Shadow Warrior Redux. I don't see how that project could possibly be expensive to produce and it would be a quick and easy buck if they sold it on Steam.

Shit.
OpenGL is suitable for Linux but sucks in Windows, true master experience is DX for Windows.

The point is, because Blood was overshadowed by other clearly inferior titles, having so specific, dark and sick, gloomy, oppressive atmosphere, so pain to learn and feel what actual game is it's very understandable why Duke kids will play Duke and SW fans will play SW, also why Doomers choose simple and universal gameplay of Doom. They are more forgiving with all gameplay and engine gimmicks. Blood has always kind of elitism dignity, unique experience, manic mystery that weights tons in these meaningful graphics of disregard everything worthlike and social to it, so no wonder with that nature of game and personality why it didn't won mainstream race of releasing source code and preserved outsider spirit. ;-)

Shit.
This is EXACTLY how I feel. That's why I started the thread. I bought my copy of Blood when I was just 15. The game had JUST been released, and at that time I would play any FPS I could get my hands on. But this one was different. It wasn't just another cookie-cutter shootemup. For christ's sake the name weapon is a FLARE GUN. The first time I shot someone with it I tilted my little head, wondering what the hell that pink thing was gonna do...and then the zombie burst into flames. And when it finally died it showered a plume of blood and sent its own head rocketing into the air. And by god...I could kick the damn thing.

But the gore, even though perfectly executed, was only a small fraction of the reason I loved this game. The atmosphere, the jokes, the CRAFT and CARE that went into making each level interesting. A MOVING TRAIN!

To see Blood Redux pop up on steam would mean I'd have to find a way to pay $25. The game would probably only be $9.99. But fuck that. I'd give em $25.

If a kickstarter booted up tomorrow for a Blood Redux on steam...well I'd be a very poor man very quickly.

Oh well.
I don't know who has the rights, but they don't seem like they are to willingly sell it.

From previous statements, Devolver thought that WB had the IP, rather that Atari (which I was led to believe). Cynically, the "crazy'spensive" statement would make sense. WB isn't exactly hurting for cash, and can afford to sit on ideas for a good long time.

I still think that the source code for Blood is somehow intertwined with world-ending, Lovecraftian, Necronomiconic symbols and scribes which is why the game is so, pardon the pun, ungodly good. But its also why they won't release it. A Blood Redux would destroy the world somehow.

Man...I actually hurt a little when I say Blood Redux. I want to see it so bad.
someone seriously needs to reverse engineer or steal the source code and put it on piratebay, screw the copyright holders!

didnt people steal the quake source code back in the day?

ugh im just so pissed i wanna experience Blood in a redux style badly
