Using wine or proton, game launches fine but apparently it's a video playback issue, any tips for fixing this on Linux?

solution: activate "prefer system libraries" in the "other" tab.

Also works for other games failing to play some videos.

OMG thanks, this fixes the frozen game issue at game start, just after the "Press any Key To Continue" stage. Will need to test the cinematic playback. Previously, had to "Add a Non Steam Game" to Steam and run from there which allowed me to continue past the loading "Press any Key To Continue" stage, but also produced no cinematic/cutscene playback and instead shows a picture of one of those old analogue TV Test Signal images in place of these cutscenes.

Actually, I spoke too soon. Whilst "prefer system libraries" allows me to get to the game menu, when starting a new game, after the "anonymous" onscreen quote, I get a black screen and nothing more. Looks like I need to play this on Windows.

Try installing through Lutris, usually when it doesn't work through Heroic it does through Lutris.

Tried it just now with Lutris. Works fine with cutscenes! I will remember this for other problem games in Heroic.
Thanks again Zoidberg
