I see on WineHQ that many report being able to successfully install EasyTutu under WINE, but it doesn't work at all for me. When I try running the executable in PlayOnLinux I only get the cryptic message that WINE has crashed. Does anyone else know of a good method of installing Tutu on Linux?

I managed to get it installed using Wine normally, instead of through Playonlinux. It was a bit of a pain though, and think you had to install weidu manually first. Sorry that I don't recall exactly what I did, but try to check out the readmes of the mods you want to install. Nowadays I'm running all my games on Windows (dualboot) instead, as it was simply a lot easier.

I missed the link on the EasyTutu site for the 'legacy' installer, which runs fine under WINE. I'm curious, though, whether or not this is identical in content to the newer one. Anyone know?

I'm not sure about what is different, but it almost certainly has a fair few differences. The latest easyTutu uses a late .net framework (3.5 or 4, I believe), so you need that in Wine for it to work. I much prefer Tutu over BGT, but I read earlier that due to these .net shenanigans, it is easier to install BGT than easyTutu in Linux.

I ran into the saving issue too, but found the same solution as mentioned there on AppDB, namely to export the character, then start a new game and import it. For some peculiar reason, it then works to save. Elsewise, you get an error and the game can crash.

I usually only install the fixpack and tweakpack, so am not sure when it's best to install what, but I'm sure you can find that in mod guides, perhaps the one here on GOG too. I see one potential issue though. At least with easyTutu, it's recommended to install it when the base installs are clean, ie before any mods. Not sure if this applies to BGT too, but I would assume so, in which case you could install the Fixpack after BGT. See there are two fixpacks there though, so maybe you are well on top of this, just thought I'd point that out. I made that mistake on my own install, so BG1 got messed up.
