Hi Guys.

I bought BG1 this afternoon and since then I have been looking for character creation guides ('cause I found D&D games to be unforgiving in the past, except maybe KotOR).

Here is what I figured out so far:

Strength: Melee-Hit, Damage, Carry Stuff, Bash
Dexterity: Armor, Ranged-Hit
Constitution: HP, Ressurection
Intelligence: Learn Spells, Cast Spells, Memo Spells, (Wizard), Lore
Wisdom: Learn Spells, Cast Spells, Memo Spells, (Priest, Paladin)
Charisma: NPC reaction

Is there any more? Going for a fighter, what keeps me from having 3INT/WIS ? In NWN it kept me from speaking. Are there any similar effects here? Also: In other D&D based games, INT was very important for skill points. Does BG even have skills?

Thanks in advance!

You've figured out pretty much all of it.
Paladins/rangers do not need high wisdom to cast their limited spells, and priests don't need to learn spells.
There's nothing stopping you from having really low int/wis, as the only penalty they cause for a non-caster is a reduction in lore, which fighters don't get much of anyway.
BG is based on 2nd Edition AD&D, which has no skills other than skills for thieves.
That means no speech impairment?

No, you're good
Cool. Thanks. I am off adventuring.
I sense a disposition towards minmaxing!
Of note as well: there's absolutely no difference between a score of 9 and a score of 14. So if you're lowering a score below 15, you may as well drop it all the way to 9 and use the extra points elsewhere.

The rule set pretty much encourages it.

I try and avoid it myself, but I sleep just fine at night knowing others do. 2e is weird, but I don't think the rules are to blame (though they do provide the motivation). I think being able to add or subtract points from one statistic roll and assign to another was the odd move.
It ended up being irrelevant, because my third roll was so good I now have 18/18/18/12/9/18 ... :D

Great roll for fighter. I assume it's human, right?
Human fighter it is, yes.
There was a guy named farbjous over at the old bioware site. He had an automatic reroller for BG2/BGtutu that would store the best roll out of X rolls. I abused that thing under all sorts of bizzare logic, like "my <charname> will be 1 in 1000!, no 10,000!" etc etc.

Somehow, I could fool myself that way, but was too proud too do CTRL-SHFT-8, or whatever. Bizarre me.

So what was your best character you played with? Halfling Barbarian 17/19/18/18/17/18? :-)
