I'm trying to solo BG2 as a Sorcerer.
So getting the Staff of Magi seemed a must.
However getting it with a solo level 14 sorcerer is harder than people make out.
After trying methods I'd read on the net that don't work.
3 hours later I got the staff with about 5% health left & teleported out with my protection from magic bubble still in effect, only to be stabbed & killed by a bloody Shadow Thief in the Bridge District.
The Staff of Magi might be all powerful, but once you've used it's 3 Fireball/Lightening bolt spells, (taking down the Beholder) then you can't hit jack with it, in a malee fight.
You're a sorcerer. If you have no choice but to resort to hitting stuff with your staff, it doesn't matter what weapon you have, you're boned.

Yes, well using the protection from magic scroll seemed like a good idea at the time.
And it would have worked had I exited in the daytime & got to the inn to sleep it off.

I'll look for different solutions today, but may fall back on it.
Any tips on how to get that staff with a low level sorcerer are always welcome.
Staff of Magi isn't necessary for solo sorc. Most people seem to just use it for unequip/re-equip cheese. I modded out the invis for this reason.
It's not mandatory, but the long-duration spell trap, save bonuses, and immunity to charm are real life-savers, literally. Also, it dispels magic on hit, all magic, regardless of caster level, which makes it better than Carsomyr in that regard (Carsomyr only dispels certain effects automatically and uses caster level 1 for everything else). For me, the dispel magic is the real game-winner, though it's not quite as infinitely abusable as the at-will invisibility. I normally use the Staff of Rynn or Staff of the Ram for actual melee damage.
