I am trying to run Baldur's Gate through wine. I installed everything without any problems. When I go to launch the game i get the errors:

"An assertion failed in D:\Dev\chitin\ChVideo.cpp at line number 4256
Programmer says: No valid video modes supported."

I am just wondering if there is something that I am missing in order to get this to run.

I am running a Macbook 2.4 ghz. 4 gig ram, integrated graphics

If there is already a post about this that I missed feel free to direct me over to that thread.

Thanks

Hi there. Please could you specify the version of Mac OS X and Wine that you are using.

For Linux it is relatively easy to install the latest version of Wine and get a lot of games running (I currently do this on Ubuntu 10.10).

On Mac OS X it harder to install an up to date version of Wine. May I suggest the following options:
1. Try the Demo of CrossOver Games and if it works for you, then consider purchasing the full version. CrossOver Games is Wine 1.2.1 with additional tools and support .

2. You could attempt to compile Wine and use that.

This is a complete guess, but based on the error message I'd try enabling a virtual desktop in Wine. Using linux, I'd run the winecfg command to do so.

Ya I actually figured this one out. It was the virtual desktop that I needed to enable. Just for simplicity I ended up going through crossover as my brother wasn't using his licence. Doesn't run as well as it would through windows, but definitely better than nothing.
