Hello!

Please forgive the stupid question ... but I'm new to this type of games; I have bought BG2 here on GIG as my first RPG.

I have identified myself with the 1st character of the party ... and I take care myself of my actions that this character do; but I have a doubt about the others characters forming the party:

While you select ALL the party members (using the select all characters button and having the AI ON) and you give the order to attack a specific target (using the attack button in the party bar on the bottom), they will fight for themselves, swapping weapons if necessary, casting spells, etc ... or I have to take care of all the members actions by myself?

Thanks in advance!

Roberto

Your party members can fight quite passable on their own.
I recommend giving a ranged weapon and a ranged attack script to everyone (I don't recommend letting them cast spells without your command), in tough battles you can give commands manually.

You can customize each characters script to suit the way you want them to act when the AI is turned on.

Generally I have only found use for the non magical scripts, (standard, passive, ranged, etc). Go to their profile screen, click customize and then scripts to make the change.

I find when I let the AI try to control my mages they use their spell at the wrong times, like using their most powerful spell on the first battle we come across and not saving them for that battle we actually need them in. So while you can give most everyone a script based on how you want them to play I find some work better than others.

Give a few of them a try and see if there is something you like, personally I like controlling the whole party so a lot of the time I have the AI turned off.

Good luck this is an awesome game. Even though it may seem like it, there is no rush to do anything so take your time and enjoy.
short answer: you can turn party ai on and off with the click of a button

You can assign different ai scripts to different party members, as mentioned, but I really don't have experience using them. They might be helpful for some characters sometimes, but usually I think you're best just issuing all of the commands yourself.
