Hickory: Music is not an 'on all of the time' thing in Baldur's Gate; not a background event. It is triggered by certain events or timers. The best way to trigger music is to go into battle.

Jason_the_Iguana: Music in BG doesn't play continually, but there is a -lot- of non-battle music.
Nobody said there was no music, nor lots of it, only that it does not play all of the time. Since you quoted me, what's your point? Why direct your answer to me?

I was trying to clarify that if IronArcturus is experiencing the same situation as the OP, where battle music -does- play but places like taverns and towns are quiet, he's still experiencing a bug and ought to keep looking for a solution. Your post could have led him to mistakenly assume that it's normal for music to be playing rarely, as opposed to most of the time. Hence the quote.

No it couldn't. I never said, nor intimated, that music plays rarely. I said, and I quote:
"Music is not an 'on all of the time' thing in Baldur's Gate; not a background event."

There is no room for misinterpretation, in the manner you mention, there. Furthermore, music does not play 'most of the time' in vanilla BG.
