So I just got caught stealing from a chest in the inn in the very beginning of the game (damn nobleman), and wound up killing a watcher. Are there any consequences of this? I need to decide whether to keep playing or reload my save, which was right before the incident.

Just go with it? I mean, you made a decision, live with the consequences hehe.
Apart from the hit to your reputation you probably took, I don't think there should be any lasting repercussions. Dunno though, I would probably just restart, just to be on the safe side. I would rather replay 15 minutes or so than get most of the way through the game then find out that I hosed myself somehow (however unlike that occurrence might be).

EDIT: Oh, you have a save right before anyway. Just reload. I don't think it is a big deal either way, but you might as well. I seem to recall that there is a bug with getting a too low reputation, and then having Flaming Fist guys auto-attack you even after you have repaired your reputation. I doubt it would affect you for this, but if you ever want to go back to Candlekeep again, you might want to make sure people don't all want to kill you over some silly bug. I am probably over-reacting, but it is such a small thing to reload in this case.

Alright, thanks. I'll reload.
Heh. Were you just looking for validation of what you already decided? I mean me personally, i play an RPG, and unless theres a "known" bug for a decision I make, I just go with it.

Owell, we all play how we wanna play. =)
Yeah, there is a global variable bug involving Flaming Fist aggro in the later parts of the game, I think. My Google-fu must be weak today, because I couldn't find any info on it. Maybe my brain is just making it up? Who knows, I just figured, "Why take the chance?"

Nope, I was going to decide based on how it might affect me later on. Sometimes I decide based on the decisions I feel like making, but sometimes I like to cheat and plan ahead. =P

Besides, I got some armor off him and some gold and jewelry from the chest. I would've been thrilled to keep it all.

No worries - I wasn't sure how you meant it, so I didn't make any assumptions.
