Tuthrick: I must say that I'm quite surprised, as it seems that it was GOG's idea to bundle these games, if I understand it correctly?
I don't buy it (no pun intended). Why would GOG remove the very best selling RPG games they've ever had from the shelf? Even if it was, why would they keep the current status quo when they know the uproar and bitterness it has caused? It's not a financial issue in regard to the originals, since they were outselling everything else, and it's absolutely not a case of removing them just because they're dated and classic.

That's why I thought this response seems weird, I always thought that GOG had to do what the publisher decides, in this case Hasbro/WotC, not the other way around. I'm not saying that the Beamdog customer support guy is lying (or is he?), but maybe he had Hasbro/WotC in mind instead of GOG.

They claimed GamerGate was behind all the bad reviews SoD got becuse of that trans character. Just read the reviews it got on GoG, Steam and look at the youtube reviews and you will see how big a lie that was. If they are lying about this too? Who knows. But they have lied their asses off before.

Thanks for putting in the effort. It seems like I recall someone saying something similar (possibly in the big BG/IWD bundling thread) last year - or maybe it was for another game, entirely, not sure. Anyway, I think the general thought was that Beamdog or whoever was telling the truth, but didn't have a clue, and just blamed GOG. GOG claimed they didn't do it and it just turned into a big "not me" fest.

I don't know who's responsible, but I tend to lean towards Hickory's interpretation, though GOG has had some rough spots and problems in the last few years. Of course, after Beamdog's past attitude, it's also hard to rule out the possibility that they were just flat-out lying. Who knows?

If nothing else, this shows that people need to bug Hasbro and, possibly, GOG about this. Even if GOG didn't do this, they could've been negotiating with Hasbro (maybe they have) and pointing to all the unhappy customers instead of leaving it up to those unhappy customers (us) to do it. In any case, it's always been clear that Beamdog would or could never do anything.

If Beamdog doesn't have a clue and "just blames GOG", then they are lying. They are certainly not telling the truth. To just blame a third party, willy nilly, is malicious. Let's not beat about the bush here.

Stig79: I wasn't arguing that nobody should do anything about it. Far from it. But asking Beamdog to unbundle it might work just as well as asking Hasbro about it.

plan99: Nice excuse to do nothing. Actually, you're STILL arguing against doing the only thing that MIGHT help. Do it or don't. If you do nothing, you've already lost and have no right to complain.

I'll tell you an old story I heard long ago. A woman was walking through an alley at night and was attacked and stabbed. She screamed for help and people in the buildings around opened their windows to see what was going on. The woman was stabbed again while these people watched from above. She kept screaming and these people just kept watching. They did nothing - they were all too afraid to do anything. Not a single one thought to yell or throw things to scare away the attacker or to call the police or to gather together with whatever they could find and chase the attacker away. If just one had done something, the others probably would've followed their lead. The problem is, they were all waiting for someone ELSE to make the first move, so no one did anything. The woman was stabbed several more times before she died. They did NOTHING and NOTHING changed. Actually, things probably got worse in their area of town and they probably complained about it.

"If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice"
-- Rush (I forget the name of the song)

I don't know why you seem so afraid to contact Hasbro. Can it hurt so much? No, it isn't the same as contacting Beamdog - there's zero chance there. If enough people tell Hasbro they're voting with their wallets on EVERYTHING Hasbro related, as ValamirCleaver said in the post I linked to above, who knows. Do you really expect anyone to believe that's no better than contacting Beamdog? Again, do it or don't but quit arguing or complaining here if you're NOT. GOING. TO. DO. ANYTHING. If you insist on doing nothing and continuing to argue and complain, do it somewhere else.
IIRC the Rush song is called "Free Will". Also I don't think anyone here was trying to argue that no one should do anything. Just pointing out that it would be more effective to pester Beamdog than Hasbro for the same reason it makes more sense to pester your supervisor about changing your shift than it does to write corporate headquarters.

I apologize for being Mr.Negative, but I don't think the classics will be unbundled. Contracts are the stone cold rules of business, and when it comes to this particular subject, GoG is probably bound by one. From a business side, it's probably better for them to put up with our complaining than it is to risk a lawsuit.

With that said, I think Beamdog getting their EE bundled with the classics is a slimey, scum-ball thing to do.

What I meant was that it was generally assumed that Beamdog or whoever I'm thinking of was telling the truth that *they* didn't bundle it. As for not having a clue and blaming someone else, that's a different matter and I agree with you about that.

No, the past had already shown that Beamdog would do nothing even if they could, except start a war with anyone that disagreed with what they were doing. Maybe they're changing for the better, but they'll have to earn the trust and respect they destroyed.

No problem, since you stated what you thought in a mature way. I would agree with what you said, assuming Beamdog is lying about GOG doing the bundling... just because. Actually, that brings up an interesting point that, yes, GOG is doing the bundling, but are they doing it all by themselves (unlikely) as Beamdog seemed to be implying or are they doing it because Hasbro told them to (likely)?

In any case, we (and GOG) can still try to show that it would be better for all (well, maybe not Beamdog, lol) if the classics were sold separately, even if Beamdog still include them as bonuses in their version, as well.
The bundling happened right when SoD got "viciously attacked by gamergate". Most likely not a coincidence.
Just gonna say this.

Beamdog is not gonna listen to us, because they don't care about the core audience, they only care about pulling in progressives to infiltrate the industry who wouldn't care about gaming otherwise. The best course of action at this point is to threaten their bottom line and attack their sources of funding. You can also send a complaint to the better business bureau, because forced obsolescence IS an anti-consumer practice, and in some cases, anti-competitive.

You can also signal a collective boycott, but if you're going to do it, don't just send an email, send a physical mail both to Hasbro and BeamDog with your complaints.

The best example you can cite is how they messed up the HD porting of MDK 2.

This sounds like the urban legend version of the murder of Kitty Genovese:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese

Kitty Genovese really was raped and murdered, but multiple people called the police, few people saw or heard the incriminating elements, and at least one elderly woman came outside to check on her.

Hmm, interesting. May or may not be based on that, but he story I told, though, was given me as purely hypothetical.

Thanks for your input. The BBB idea sounds interesting and I'll check into that. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem there're enough people interested in doing anything *outside* of GOG for a collective boycott (a few...).

You can start small. Sometimes, all it takes is a small snowball to get an avalanche going.
