I've searched the 'net for cheat codes, and found plenty. If I wanted to, I could gain items galore, or levels, or gold, or just about anything else.

But I can't find the one cheat I want.

It's really very simple: I don't want to die.

I suck at the game. Really, horribly, terribly suck at it. So I was wondering, IS there a way that I can keep from being able to die? I want to play it and enjoy the story, and questing, and leveling, but without the constant death issues if possible, and having to refight an enemy seven times because they keep gibbing one of my characters just frustrates me.

If there isn't an invulnerability cheat, I guess I'll have to just play through without any and hope for the best, but I really hope someone can help me out here.

The closest (without hacking save file for HP and resistance numbers) would be: CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys() and then Ctrl+Y for instant enemy killing and Crtl+R for instant healing.

Another possibility is to make custom item (there are programs for that) and make it give you properties like 'HP never fall below 1' or various resistances to all status effects.

There is no simple 'godmode' cheat in BG, at least none that I know of.

The custom item option sounds the best then. It might sound counterintuitive given what I was asking originally, but I really do want as much of the game to play normally as possible. Instant enemy kills would ruin the fun of playing to me, while instant healing would be a huge hassle and not save me from one-shot critical hits, which are mostly what annoy me (I haven't gotten any of my characters above about level 4 in my longest save.) So, what would I need to do to obtain said custom item, or is there an item in the game I can spoof with CLUA console that already does that?

You'll need program like Infinity Explorer or DLTCEP (just Google it.) There are a handful of tutorials how to use them to create custom items.

Unfortunately I'm leaving home right now, but in few hours I can make them for you myself ;) [just say for which game: BG / BGTutu / BG2]

The vanilla Baldur's Gate Saga Complete available here on the site is what I'm using, and I would very much appreciate them being made for me. My few forays into non-doom modding have resulted in, well, less than spectacular results, let me leave it there :P
I do not remember BG being all that hard to survive. I started the game as a mage and do not remember dieing all that often or at all. Maybe we can help you with some game play improvements or something short of "God Mode". What seems to be causing your death? Give some examples.

I keep getting hit by swords.

In four hours or so of play I had to restart the same fight against a group of gnolls TWELVE TIMES because they would critical against Minsc on the first hit and gib him. That's, of course, among other instances of virtually the same events occurring.

I'm playing on normal difficulty, and most of my characters (save what's-her-face the mage, starts with a D) have at most a 4 AC and it's still happening constantly. It sucks.

There's the problem: your AC is way too high. You should have splint mail at least for those who can wear it, and plate mail if you can. There are also some rings of protection you can get fairly easily early on.
What's the point of playing an rpg if there is no risk to balance reward? What is it that I'm missing here? I mean, play however you want, but God Mode in ANY game makes gameplay very dull, very quickly.

Bill Haverchuck: He thinks being the Dungeon Master gives him the license to mess with our heads.
Harris Trinsky: Oh, I'm Sorry. Perhaps I should let you encounter kittens and grandmas so as not to upset you.
Instead of a cheat you should read the manual and look up some basic strategy guides for BG1. There are tons of guides on the 'net if you just google them. I don't think I've ever had Minsc get one shotted. The 2e DnD rules have a learning curve and BG is a little bit of a strategy/rpg but some basic combat guides would do wonders for you.

Helmets protect against critical hits, all your melee characters should wear one if they can. Also, try to organize your party so that mages / thieves are in the back row with bows or slings.

I've done this. Everyone wears a helmet, I've got the best armor I can afford (I said everyone but the mage had AT MOST a 4 ac, one of my characters had a -1 and my main character only has a 1) and I don't like things like strategy guides and walkthroughs because I like discovering elements of the game on my own, and things like that tend to feel like someone is railroading me on what choices to make.

I'm gonna use the ring/s for one playthrough (again, thanks Thiev) and then I'll probably do one without them too, once I've gotten a better gleaning of how would be best for ME to play the game.
how do you even enter cheats in BG1?

Landeril: how do you even enter cheats in BG1?
In baldur.ini file in BG folder add the line Cheats=1 under [Game Options].
To access console in-game, press Ctrl+Tab.

* You must edit .ini file as an admin and run the game as an admin, if the game is installed to default location (Program Files) and UAC is enabled. Without that, the game will use files from VirtualStore and not istallation folder

^ That applies to vanilla BG1+TotSC only. BGTutu uses codes for BG2 ToB.

How would one go about editting this file?
