I bought original 4 in 1 box from bargain pin. It has the BG 1&2 and the expansions of both game (not the dragonspear). So if I have this, is there any point of buying enhanced editions? Does it really bring anything crucial to the table?
It brings some QoL features. If you are a veteran you might not care that much. It's probably better for newcomers.
I don’t have a disc drive in my PC, so it was either buy one or get the Enhanced Edition. Overall I am happy with the EE, although one gripe I have is how the camera zooms way out during in-game cutscenes, making it hard to make out what is happening.

But it is nice having the extra QoL as well as access to the class kits and spells from BG2 in BG1. There are new NPCs with new quest lines as well.

Try out playing the originals. It they work flawlessly and you don't mind the ancient looks be happy.
Thanks for the replies. BG 2 and ToB did install correctly. BG 1 though has some problems. I check, if I can install it properly. If not, I just buy BG 1 EE from sale
Perhaps BG1 might work better with the official final patch?

Gosh another stupid thread

Just fork out on the EEs and be done with it
I think it's a valid question, considering that for older games people are looking for experience either as close to the original game as possible, or tweaked with modern approach.

Do you *need* EEs if you have the originals? No, they're more or less the same games anyway.
Would I recommend playing EEs for the original experience? Of course no, the gameplay is way too different.
Would I recommend playing EEs for more modern experience? No, their quality is just all around poor, I would rather recommend newer games inspired by BG series, like Pillars of Eternity.

The Dude abides!

I give another thumbs up to playing the original Classic versions over the EE versions. Play 'em the way the original designers intended!

The real question is: Does anybody really need more than 10000 scrolling screens of lush SVGA graphics?

If you're referring to BG games... *slowly raises hand*

Fanboy rubbish.

People don't listen to the bums, just be sure to use the orig cinematics mod for BG1 and you're good to go.

Another "you're not oldschool enough" bullshit. They are original, period. Well mostly. If you take off the fanboy blinds from you eyes that is.
And I assure you, I am oldschool, very prob more oldcshool than most on here. And I surely love the authenticity in my games. It's just playing the blame game and spreading FUD and thinking in mob mentality what I defo don't like.
Also computer entertainment is not like a museum with oil paintings. It changes you know. It's called software for a reason. Yeah I'd like if BD would left say the main menus alone and don't port BG UI style to BG2 but that's utterly minor compared.to the bugfixes (which they are still doing!) let alone the QoL improvements. In pretty much every respect the EEs are perfectlly original.

Infinity-powered visuals are debatable. They surely look good on a map overview. Not so good in the actual game tho.

BTW, BD actually showed that it could be pushed further with their new area (one of those) in BG2 - that forest before the wizards hideout. Now that sure looked *lush*.

But if you're in for some REALLY quality prerendered background (and not too shabby models/animation either! Look away in shame Infinity) isometric medieval action, The Temple of Elemental Evil absolutely wipes the floor with anything Infinity-based (save PST, nothing wipes the floor with PST obviously)))) but that's not due to Infinity rather despite it). Especially with the T+ renderer (again, non-canonical for all you authenticity buffs). And it sports proper combat of course. Not much else comes out good in it compared to BG/IWD, unfortunately tho.

Infinity games on the TOEE engine would've been an absolute blast... Oh well.

Sorry, I haven't read your post properly. You're not actually on about old-skoolness. Instead your post is entirely and utterly bullshit.

And supposedly I am the one with *opinions* here, jeeeez..

oh well, my habit of thinking good of other people let me down again.
