Hello all, I have been playing through BGI and BGII (with BiG world expansion) and have just gotten to spellhold. Up to this point, it has run without any (major) problems or glitches. I just got to the island and am trying to get into spellhold, but when I try to load the map, it tells me I need to insert disk 3. I actually have disk 3 (from quite a while ago) but the game is not recognizing it, and I am stuck. Has anyone run into this and, if so, how did you resolve it? Running on Windows 7, if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Xan

Are you in Windowed-mode? If you are, do you have a BG- related program running (like a game editor that uses the game resources) or are you looking into the game files while playing? If so, therein may be the problem.

Other than that, perhaps someone else more experienced with the game engine may be of more help than me.

Did you install any patches over GOG version or did any part of Big World modify .exe files? If so, that probably reintroduced disc check.

The Big World may have modified the .exe files. Is there any way I can change that and get it to not need a disk to continue?

If you didn't modify Big World installation (specifically steps shown here) it means the latest ToB patch was installed during it. That reintroduced disk check.

You'd have to re-install everything using these steps, I'm afraid.

Ah, bummer. I'm guessing there is no way to keep my save files? Thanks for the advice though!

If you install exactly the same game (mod order etc.) the saves should be compatible. You can find them in 'save' folder in game main directory. Just copy them somewhere safe and put back after reinstall.

If saves are not there, look in:
C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\GOG.com\<game_folder>
