I can't export any of my characters and my saved games from BG1 are neither in my Documents folder, the appdata\local\virtualstore location, or the default location. I've looked for a couple hours now and they're simply gone.

But when I go to play the actual game the saved files as well as any character I have exported previously are actually available for use, therefore the files have to be somewhere on my computer but I am stumped as to where they might be. I would like to import my character over to BG2 when I complete BG1, does anyone have an idea as to where the files might be, or better yet an answer?

Your exported characters in in the main game directory, inside the Characters folder. Your saved games are inside the folders Save (single player games) and MPSave (multi-player games). It's been a long time since I played BG2, so the exact method of importing saved games escapes me, but I do know that you can copy your exported characters into BG2's Characters folder for import into the game.

(I hope you're not using Vista or 7 and installed to any \Program Files\... directory. I run XP, later Windows "protect" any \Program Files\ directory, and I've virtually no knowledge of the arcane magics of those OS's...)

Apart from Grogerson's solution the only other one I can offer is that character files are saved as .chr files. So maybe searching your computer for ".chr" might help you find them if for whatever reason they aren't in the characters folder.

Also, I am assuming you aren't running tutu. If you are that might explain the changed location.

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled in a different location, the files are in the actual folder now and if I happen to find the old ones then hooray.
