Without receiving this quest to save some twerp from Ogrons, I've lost my "Ranger Stronghold" AKA a cabin. I've learned this is another bug that was never fixed, but at least it isn't critical to the game.

Is there any way to reset and complete it (I found something that will reset the dialogue, but not the Ogrons)? I don't have a save that is before the fail state..

Why did you lose it? Why is it a bug? If you've reneged on the stronghold quest, it's right that you lose it.

It's a bug because the timer began even though I never received the quest. From what I've read (after the fact) this quest giver will appear but not approach you and even if you don't speak with this NPC the timer kicks off. Seems like a bug to me.

You still haven't stated who, but I will assume you mean Delon, the little boy who seeks you out? Are you certain that he never spoke to you? From memory, when he does, he tells you that you have three or four days before the attack, but no quest entry is added UNTIL you speak to Minister Lloyd in the Umar Hills. If you miss the deadline (3-4 days) you WILL lose your stronghold.

I'm not sure why my previous 2 posts haven't convinced you that I never spoke with this spotty twerp. Would a third assertion really make a difference?

If you wish, do a web search with these words: "Baldur's Gate 2 Delon bug"...it may surprise you. If I was forewarned (I'm playing this fairly blind, only checking if something goes wrong), I would've followed some advice read and slept outside the "Ranger Stronghold" until Delon popped up. Sadly I was knee deep in sewers, slums, and outer planar prisons when the brat came a calling.

Oh, I don't know, maybe it was the lack of information; or maybe it was just the colourful language that I failed to understand. Who knows?
Hickory- My grammar is generally poor and imprecise, yet you knew exactly what I was writing about (your posts immediately zeroed in), so that wasn't your issue. I think that for some reason, you feel a weird (to me) compulsion to defend every charge of "bugs" or "glitches" that are made. I'm sorry, but to most this is a bug. It doesn't negate that these are fine games, but hardly perfect.

I'll probably resume my play-through in the next couple of days, so if anyone knows of a way to "reset" or get around this quest please let me know. Otherwise I'll just accept that the failure of this bug isn't critical and just move on. Thanks.

Wrong. I had to work on it... hard. Because that's what I wrote does not mean that's what immediately came to mind. I am NOT a mind reader.

And if I had this weird (to you) compulsion to defend bugs, then why do I help so many people in these forums with their bug problems. Don't talk about things you know nothing about.

There do seem to be other reports of this bug: see , [url=http://forum.bioware.com/topic/227636-ranger-stronghold-question/]here and here for some examples of people reporting similar issues. I know from personal experience that the game does occasionally have trouble making a character appear in the right place to start a quest, too: when I played, I never had the NPC show up for Nalia's personal quest (involving a funeral, I believe?).

OP: The last of my three links above includes instructions on how to get your stronghold back using the console. It may be possible to reset the quest as well, although you'd have to look into how to do that for yourself. And make a backup before you try.

That will not work. The Ranger stronghold quest is more complicated than that. If failed, the cabin gets disabled, triggers activated, and a lot of variables get set, as well as most of the bit parts in the Umar Hills get 'sent home'.

Indeed there is no easy way to fix this and the bug is still in the game, because it hit me yesterday. Not pleased stuff like this is still there in an EE.
It's really annoying to have a bug like this in the game, I hope it will be fixed someday.

It's not a reproducible bug -- I've never come across it. In any event, don't hold your breath.

Have you opted for the planar quest before securing the Ranger's cabin?

Why are you asking me?
