I'm trying not to say anything snarky about Linux here. But the GOG community is (relatively) small, and users such as yourself are not very numerous, so you may have to try it for yourself.

But you'll never get a trouble-free experience with an unsupported operating system.

You might try a wider search to see if non-GOG versions of Baldur's Gate have been usable on Linux. Non-BG actually still works really well on new hardware and versions of Windows, so who knows how much GOG actually had to change.
