I'll die almost every enemy i meet and especially several dozen of times or any of my comrades when fazing assassins in the inns.

What am i doing wrong? The one assassin now casts frozen spells which makes my company not being able to do anything.

I give up!

What is your party composition? Is your most heavily armoured character taking point? Are you using the wand of magic missile to interrupt casting? Have you tried preemptively casting sleep, fear, or charm? Are your ranged characters sniping casters?

You haven't given us any relevant information about your situation.

1. Which game are you playing? You mentioned assassins so I "assume" you play the first BG. Is it classic or EE? Are there any mods?

2. What is your race, class, Attributes (STR, DEX etc), Level?
3. Same question for any companions you might have.

BG has a steep learning curve and I have been in your shoes many times before. But now it is a yummy piece of cake. Don't give up, tell us more and let's see what we can make out of you.
Neira in Nashkel Inn? She's actually pretty tough for an early game party, especially if you're new to the game and don't have a very good idea what to do. An early game party won't be able to hit her very often, and she can spam Hold Person a couple times, which is almost guaranteed to succeed because your party have horrible saves at this point.

Hopefully you have the Wand of Missiles. Use it on her when she's casting to interrupt her casting. Low level spells that could help you at this point would be Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Blind, Charm Person, Sleep. Sleep is extremely overpowered in vanilla BG1. Chromatic Orb and Magic Missile are very weak at low levels but they can interrupt her spellcasting.

Other than that, give your tankiest character (probably Khalid?) a Chain Mail or Splint Mail and a shield, have him tank her, give him several healing potions, then just hope for lucky crits. You may even grab Minsc and Edwin before fighting her. They are both powerful characters.

You are a Swede. That was your first mistake.
First of all, you do not need to enter that inn and you can skip that fight.

Second of all, it seems that you are not using your items and party members optimally. Neira is one of the easier assassins. But without knowing more details about your part composition it is difficult to make any recommendations.

Playing BG1 with the widescreen mod nothing else. My party consists of Iomen, Jahera, Khalid and Viconia DeVir. I am myself a fighter so i also go in the front? Nope what is the interrupt casting? How do i cast sleep, fear or charm? None in my party has those abilities beside sleep which I belive Viconia can use?

Yea but in the the dwarf assassin was hard, i had to try at least a couple of dozen of times to manage to kill him. That hold and web spells Neira assasin in Nashkell uses on my party is very irritating but despite that even when my party which consists of two fighters me and Khalid we almost never manage to hit her. Horrible saves what is that? Sleep is that the offensive spell Viconia can use? Never met Minsc and Edwin yet. I did met a Bard singer in Beregost, forgot his name though.

I am a complete newbie to Baldurs gate also not using the EE-versions but the widescreen mod which makes everything a bit hard to see.

Spellcasting Interruption:
A character who is casting a spell can be interrupted if they take damage (in most cases), and their spell will be wasted. If you see an enemy cast a spell, hit them with a ranged attack or a damaging spell before they finish casting. In your case: try using the Wand of Missiles on Neira when she is casting. It doesn't always work like this though; in rare cases the casting of an enemy is scripted differently and cannot be interrupted.

Your party does not have a mage yet. It's a good idea to recruit Edwin into your party. He's in the Nashkel area, near the bridge near the bottom of the map. He's a good mage.

Sleep is a level 1 mage spell. Since you don't have a mage, you don't have access to that spell. If you have Viconia, try using Command instead. Command is a short-term sleep spell (6 seconds). Have Viconia memorize the spell several times if necessary.

"Horrible saves":
"Saves" here means your Saving Throws. You can see them in the Character Record (R) screen - Save vs. Spell, Save vs. Death, etc. These numbers basically represent how likely your characters can resist harmful effects. The lower these values, the better. At level 2 your party will mostly have Saves in the range 12-16. For example, to resist a Hold Person spell, you need a Save vs. Spell, by rolling a 20-sided dice. If your character has Save vs. Spell = 16, it means you need to roll at least 16 to resisit the spell. So your chance is 5/20 or 25%.

General advice for difficult battles:

1. Lower the difficulty setting to very easy before the battle (but don't forget to set it back to normal afterwards so you get full XP again)
2. Go somewhere else first and return when you are more experienced an better equipped.
- Viconia should have access to Command spell, which makes a single target unconscious for a while. Very useful early on for annyoing enemies.
- Make sure to have a lot of healing spells memorised for Jaheira and Viconia.
- Remember the lower armor class, the better. So splint mail / chain mail should be affordable for your fighters and clerics (including Jaheira).
- Try to equip most if not all your characters with range weapons, if they are proficient in them (bow for Imoen and Khalid, sling for Jaheira and Viconia).
- You can enable auto-pause in the options - enemy sighted is especially useful, as it enables you to react before the enemy does something nasty.
- Use potions / scrolls / wands. There are a lot of useful items to find, don't hold on to them, because you might need it later. Use it now when you have a though fight. You'll be able to buy those later.
- You can enable scripts for your fighters in the character sheet, if there's a lot of enemies. Aggressive is useful, because your fighters won't stand and do nothing after killing a single enemy. Keep spellcasters and thieves as default, because it's better to manage them manually.

You have ignored me totally but I am still willing to help. You can read my 2 messages here. I tried to give some quick information about the game regarding what I had asked you and you ignored. :)

Good Luck.

I don't think it was intentional. Sometimes messages go under the radar. I've had people PM me before, but I wouldn't discover the message until much later, if at all.
It does sound like your troubles may be down to inexperience with 2nd Ed AD&D rules, or maybe D&D games in general. Not to worry though; there's lots of good advice on this thread that should help with that.

In general, an effective D&D party will always consist of one of the four major roles:

- A Warrior-type, such as Fighter, well-armored and with high HP, who leads the way in battle and engages enemies first to draw attention to himself rather than his squishier party members.

- A Wizard-type, such as a Mage, who are primarily there to deal with large clusters of enemies, either via crowd-control spells like Sleep, or with damaging spells like Fireball. At higher levels, Mages will be nearly essential to dealing with enemy mages, who will start having various spell defenses up that you'll need a Mage of your own to counter.

- A Priest-type, such as a Cleric, who is mostly there to provide healing and buffs for your party. They also make for good secondary tanks due to their ability to wear heavy armor.

- A Rogue-type, such as a Thief. Thieves are usually brought along for scouting and to deal with traps. Depending on your preferences, you can also turn them into "assassins" that deal a large amount of damage through sneaky combat tactics, or as archer-types that harass enemy spellcasters from afar (although there are Warrior builds that can do this role much more effectively).

From there, it's just a matter of discovering what are effective tactics against different enemy types, and making sure that your party is well-rounded enough to be capable of handling a wide variety of foes and situations. At early levels though, yes, you definitely want to make sure all of your party members have ranged weapons; most foes have low enough HP that you can focus down individual targets before they even reach you.
I just finished BG1 with legacy of bhaal difficulty as a solo shaman.
Your doing something wrong =)

I am going to give BG a try again. I gave up last time. What you mean that i need a 20-sided dice and why is my chance 5/20?
