waltc: I'm 85% through, @ 10-12gb/sec downloading speed.
that can't be right... do you mean 10 mb/ sec perhaps?

anyway yes, Larian makes this patch not Gog so the simple fact is they make Steam costumers one file and Gog a different one... more modern servers at Steam would be the real difference but it still boils down to Larian
Is GOG Galaxy not providing the MACOS version of Patch 5 yet? Or am I having a unique problem with it? I have the last hotfix version: 4.1.1.3956130 and GOG is telling me there are no updates available. I just did a full uninstall and tried a fresh download and it appears to just be downloading the last hotfix version: Version: 4.1.1.3956130 again.

Mac users, we're still working on Patch 5 and hope to release it soon. We'll keep you posted on further news.

I find rebooting does the trick when Galaxy cannot connect.
I just got what I can only assume is an 'overloaded' error message on the forums. The new patch may be bogging down the GOG servers (no idea what their architecture is, and it'd be stupid to serve games through a bottleneck that they share with their web servers, but stranger things have happened).

Point is, it's not impossible that they're under some kind of overloaded condition and that's affecting downloads right now.
An update just popped up for BG3 on GOG.

Why is it the same size as the full version of the game? o_O
Are you guys seeing the patch 5 update using GOG Galaxy ? I prefer downloading the offline installer and the game is not updated to Patch 5 either as a patch update files or full offline installer. Offline installer is still stuck on Patch 4 hot Fix 3 :(.

There's always a delay. They fix update the thing they have the most control over (and has the least chance of generating user complaints) first, then update the manual installer files.

Give it a beat. It'll come.
I have a feeling the patch size is to make sure the game is compatible with XBox for cross platform multiplayer, as 102 gig is a tad large for a normal patch.

The Steam version of the update was a little more than 26 GB. I would assume the huge sizes on GOG.com have other reasons.
My sons playing the Steam version had a DL of about 26 GB vs GOG 103GB.
Anyway, in Steam several people report issues with Gameplay in BG3 after patching,
Those got the recommendation to reinstall the complete Game to fix those issues.
Thus, I guess GOG goes the hard-and-safe way by reinstalling the game completely, disguised only as a patch.
As this already happend with the former patch, I hope that this won't happen again in the future.
About 100GB means I have to wait nearly 10 h before being able to continue playing.

1 if your son only installed 26 gb then he is not playing the same build... its prob a copy of net he actually downloaded
2 yes the patch causes as many [if not more] bugs as it fixes... thats nothing new for this game as Larian considers us the main play testers
3 the Gog galaxy patch is handled by Larian as is the Steam patch... the only real difference is the type of compression and thats mostly the type of servers used as Gog servers are less impressive
Only 3 days to download this for me. Wish I wasn't stuck on copper where I live.

I found a workaround so I can play it while it updates itself.

Just copy the whole game folder to another drive (external ssd usb 3.0 or faster if on laptop) so you can play from that instead while it updates. Once it finishes, delete your copied game folder and play from the original location again. No down time. This works great if you are stuck on copper lines like me with sub 10mbps internet.
