I own Avernum 4 on Steam, but I can’t get it to work properly and was wondering if the GOG version of this series has any kind of improved compatibility for modern PCs built in. I’ve tried many possible fixes with the Steam version (including launching it with comparability settings, using DXwnd, setting up a Windows ADK database, changing ForceDirectDraw Emulation setting, etc etc…) but the best I can get is the game running with severe mouse lag that makes it very frustrating to play. Does the GOG version run ok on modern PCs without needing any complicated fixes?

I just tried Avernum 4 again to see if there are any changes and it works perfectly on my Windows 10 professional 64 bit machine.

That is no guarantee that it will work on your machine.

That's the same OS I'm using. I really appreciate you checking this for me, thanks!

UPDATE: I installed the GOG version, and it does indeed work flawlessly on my system without needing any compatibility fixes. Go GOG!

I am so glad it helped you. I really love the Avernum series as well as Geneforge. You should have a lot of fun.
