What is the "NP" attribute on body armor?

I searched the manual but could not find this anywhere. The only guess I could come up with is "N"egative to "P"ickpocket skill (???). What does it mean?

It's Noise Penalty i think.

Oh, it's in the manual actually, in the Acronyms section.
