Hello folks,

It has recently come to my attention that Obsidian entertainment is interested in making a new game in the Arcanum universe. To help them realize this goal I have petitioned Activision and Sierra to allow Obsidian to work with the Arcanum IP. I cant think of a better place to post my petition. If you like the idea please check out the petition, sign it, and share with any friends, groups, forums, and sites that might be interested. For some reason I could not post this topic with the link. The petition is at change.org. Just search using the title of this topic or open the attachment for a screen shot of the link. . As soon as I can post a direct link I will do so. Thank you.

GOG does not allow users to post links until they've gained some reputation in the forums. This is to prevent people from signing up for accounts just to spam links to things. It doesn't take much to earn link-posting rights I don't think. Spend a little time in the GOG forums and you'll find you can post them in no time.

Also, I've signed the petition. Thanks for letting us know here!

Maybe something to do with spam prevention. Posting links probably requires a minimum reputation.
Signed! I wish they were making an Arcanum 2 instead of Pillars 2 but hey, none of them asked me!
I have been on GOG for a few years but have never checked out the forums much. I will have to start. It seems like a good community of gamers. :) I am glad you signed Waltorius...and you too FlamingJ. There is a whole Topic about a sequel to Arcanum at the Obsidian forum...so a lot of people are thinking about it and it is on Feargus' and Obsidian's mind as well. :) PoE 2 has been pretty well received and I think Arcanum 2 will be equally so.

I think anyone who's played Arcanum will automatically be on board, and for those who haven't, it's an easy sell: steampunk fantasy RPG by Obsidian, with technology vs. magic. I imagine that would get a lot of people's attention, even if they only know Obsidian from their recent output.
Signed.

Hey guys, lets bump this topic!
10 votes for the 200 milestone.
Signed. Over 250 now. Hope it happens.
Hopefully... not.

Obsidian ruined their DnD license, and I do not dare to think of the damage they could bring to such an already fragile IP.

The only ray of hope would actually be that the RPG-scourge called Chris Avellone left Obsidian. So we could finally maybe have a bit of deep storytelling without the ever same shallow pseudo-depth cr*p he defiled so many titles with.

And then again, there would still be that problem that Obsidian never really finishes their processes until release and afterwards. (bugfixing, polishing, etc.)
Especially as they always lose track on their ambitions, and finally need to cut holes in their base concept throughout developement that water down the final result.

So while the absence of guy Avellone sounds promising... I really doubt their design management is up to the task to master such a mammoth project as Arcanum.

He was sidelined on PoE, and that is 80 steaming hours of crap. Avellone's biggest problem was that he was a founder, and no one could take the scissors to him when he got all stream of consciousness garbage. He is probably doing much better work as a contractor, because they won't cop it.

Obsidian are a wreck of a company now. They've kept all the disorganisation and lost the vision. 250 signatures is what it is.
Nothing has changed since.

And the same goes for "always the same, never new" pseudo-depth Avellone...

Signed the petition. We need more games like Arcanum, or more games in the same universe.

Always loved the game, regardless of its flaws.

This post is extremely curious since many people point to Avellone as the reason why Obsidian games had deep writing... which might be somewhat true, but it's still wrong. The best written Obsidian game, New Vegas, had John Gonzalez writing most of it, for instance.
All in all, I sort of agree, Obsidian is not a very good company. However, I don't think they "ruined" their DND license, NWN2 is quite fine. Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir are better than anything Bioware did with their DND license.
The lack of quality in Obsidian's works are due to poor managing more than anything else to be honest.

Now, when it comes to Arcanum 2... I ask myself... why? Arcanum was a very messy game, even though it was the most Fallout game made after Fallout. Troika wanted to make Arcanum 2 as a FPS, which might be interesting if they do manage to make it.

Sadly, change dot org petitions don't do anything, so there's no point in signing them. I guess if you really want to give your data to yet another website/company, then go ahead.
