Greetings,

i'd like to know if it's possible to fail the game by making wrong decisions other than death of the character?

Current games usually don't offer anything like that and lead you to successful ending no matter what. But Arcanum is older game so maybe the authors were not so easy on players back then.

I don't want to stick to walkthroughs because it'd ruin the experience of freedom of choice you have in game. I just want to know if i will always stay on the safe side or can come to a point of no return leading to Game over. That would be a lot of effort wasted as i explore the game and try various options.

Thanks for answers

Well, there are 4 different endings divided into 2 branches after a fairly obvious plot decision, IIRC.
So you can lock yourself out of the ending you prefer, but I don't think you can actually fail the main quest except by dying.

Do note that there are some key items you need to complete the game, and it's possible to drop or sell them somewhere (which would mean spending a long time trying to find them). But that shouldn't happen unless you're really not paying attention.
Like mystral said, it's not possible to fail main quest unless you loose some important items. Even if you kill important NPCs, game always let's you progress around it, which is awesome.
One of my most favorite playthroughs involved killing every single NPC important to the main storyline, but still fulfilling the main storyline. The only one I couldn't get around was Teach for going to the isle of despair. For the others, there's always an item you can find (on their body or nearby) or the spirit talking spell to get you through.

How badass is it that you can murder everyone like that? Bravo, Arcanum.
Though if you try to attack [spoilerpants] he will send you to the Void with no way out and only one unstated way to kill the boss.

Even there, you still have plenty of choices: gather what allies you can, go on a killing spree and put those points into Dexterity and/or Melee, find one of the two gamebreaking weapons lurking there, or even give the extended middle finger to what the prophecy expects from you. Really, it takes away exactly one option, and that's it.

You're right, I had forgotten that there was more than one option after getting stuck there. Freedom! :3
