Hi guys,

Sometimes I run across certain enemies that cast Stun or Entangle on me, or use some other similar things that paralyse me.

Can I use some magic item or tech item or maybe craft something that can protect me from being paralysed?

You can increase your magic resistance (MR) in one of three ways:

* By being tech-oriented, which increases your technological aptitude (TA). A positive TA effectively equals your MR. (Note that this has the possibly unwanted side effect of blocking beneficial spells as well, such as healing spells and buffs.)

* By purchasing or stealing a MR-boosting item such as a Dorian's Amulet, and wearing it.

* By investing in the Meta college. I believe that the first spell (Resist Magick) stacks, which means that you can cast it upon yourself twice to double your MR. Disperse Magick cancels an existing spell effect, freeing you from spells like Entangle; while Dweomer Shield makes you totally immune. The last two spells are even more powerful; but TBH, the need for them won't come up very often.

Thanks TwoHandedSword,

I tried a few things:

1. Unfortunately Resist Magick doesn't stack, it goes to MR 50 with the 1st casting and goes back to MR 0 with the 2nd, I also tried to combine Resist Magick (MR 50) with Dorian's Amulet (MR 30~40) but to my surprise my MR was still 50, I read somewhere 2 guys mentioning that Resist Magick caps at 50, is this really true?
Can you give me some advice how to reach MR 95 and which items increase MR?

2. A bit in another direction, but I wanted to test if TA 100 can protect from Disintegrate; I had MA 25 and Sebastian had TA 99 and when I cast Disintegrate on him he dies every time; if I have TA 38 or more Nasrudin never casts Disintegrate on me; is there someone else who might try to cast Disintegrate on me if I have TA 100? I read 1 guy saying that TA 100 doesn't protect from Disintegrate, but I wanted to test this properly if it's really true.

3. Is it possible to find a Scroll of Dweomer Shield somewhere? Maybe some Magick Shop Clerk sells it?

1. Whoops; I guess that spell isn't designed to stack after all. I had thought it had scaled, depending on the MA of the caster; looks like I was wrong.

1a. Achieving a MR of 95 (the true maximum) is possible. I have an elven PC who has done so, by way of a Dorian's Amulet, Arcane Leather* and an Arcane Ring (and the 100 MA needed for them to have full effect) and the +30 MR bonus which is part of the successful completion of the Arcanum Gods Quest.

*Arcane Robes would offer a larger potential bonus (up to +50) at the cost of a much lower AC and DR; not even close to a fair tradeoff, IMO.

2. There are some spells that don't check against MR. Teleportation is one; based on your experiment, Disintegrate is apparently another.

3. According to the OSG, nobody stocks a scroll of Dweomer Shield — which also makes it extremely unlikely that you would ever find one as treasure, either. On the plus side, however: if you ever did, any of the magick shop clerks would be delighted to take it off your hands.

Doesn't Mage's Staff allow for casting Dweomer Shield a limited number of times? From what I remember, those are sold regularly by magick shops for some 3k coins, so this would be an easily available option.

EDIT: On Disintegrate tests: if Sebastian stands near a train station, he should get to 100 TA from its +20 TA "aura"; of course, it'll also lower your MA...
