Just getting into this game, looks pretty nifty! It almost has that awestruck feeling of when I first played BG...not that it is the same as BG of course, but that it immerses you in a unique setting with a unique but well-fleshed-out system that offers options you don't see everywhere (ok, so D&D for BG isn't unique, but such a thorough CRPG implementation was).

I am particularly interested in the Tech side of the game, so my plan is to build a Melee/Tech character.

That said, I started the game and acquired my first 2 components that fit a learned schematic, but I can't figure out how to combine the elements to produce the desired result. I am probably missing something simple -- but can you tell me what I need to do with the parts to craft the item? I have the schematic learned and I have the pieces, I just can't figure out how to mix the components to generate the resulting item!

Thanks,

Sam

Welcome to the madhouse. Here's what you need to know.

1) Have both components in your own inventory (not a follower's).

2) From the main screen, click on the gear icon at the bottom right. This opens up the tech screen.

3) For learned schematics (acquired using character points) click along the right-hand side for the right college. They are, from top to bottom: Herbology, Chemistry, Electrical, Explosives, Gun Smithy, Mechanical, Smithy, Therapeutics.

4) For found or purchased schematics, first move the schematic to your hotkey bank, then click on it to learn it. From the tech screen, click on the button next to the scroll icon. (The one above it, with the college cap, brings you back to the learned schematics.) The order of the disciplines remains the same as above.

5) If you have both the components and the necessary expertise, the bottom button will be surrounded by two bright green lights. Click it, and profit!

6) If the lights are red, something's wrong: you're missing either the necessary expertise or at least one of the components. If the lights are dark, you don't yet know that schematic.

7) If you can't find a schematic, it might not be the first one you know for a given discipline. Look for a right-facing arrow in the upper right corner of the schematic page.

8) If you can't craft a found schematic, you may lack the necessary expertise. There's a place in Tarant where you can buy manuals: but they're heavy and expensive, and their use is tied to your current Intelligence.

This should get you going. If it doesn't, ask.

Got it, thanks much!!!

I was trying combining items in my inventory, or opening the inventory at the same time as the schematic (which I couldn't figure out how to do), or just about everything other than pushing the button...lol ;) Too easy!
Glad I was able to help.
