I hear tell that playing on Easy gives you a bonus to experience points earned- I like that. But I also prefer to play on Hard. So, is there a file I can edit to transfer the experience bonus to the Hard setting rather then Easy? I know I could edit a background to accomplish this but I'd really rather tackle the difficulties directly.

Thanks!

I don't know if you can do what you want to do directly, but there is a workaround.

First, download and install the level cap remover mod. (A link is in the stickied thread, IIRC in the first post.)

Then, go into the GOG Games folder (or wherever you're running the game from). Click on Arcanum, then Data, then Rules (which was created as part of the mod).

In that folder is a .MES file called xp_level. Make a backup copy, then use Notepad or any other text editor to manually change the XP to whatever you like.

Well, if I were to go that route it would be easier to just modify a background. Thanks anyway- your help is, as always, appreciated.

Can you do that without installing the cap remover? I would like to double the exp needed to make the game harder.

If you can, I'm not aware of it. But I wouldn't worry too much; you can create almost the same situation by making the XP requirement for level 51 some outrageously high number (like one billion).
It's much simpler to just dl the level cap remover to get that xp file.

To extract game files:

I used the xp file without replacing the exe and it works. Thanks for suggestion!

EDIT: Can you tinker with the difficulty itself? For example double enemy hp or damage taken by player?

To change the actual 'difficulty level' in the options menu would probably require hex editing.

To make the game harder, you alter the game files. Theres about 300 monsters though, and over 500 items.

Or you can let me do it for you by playing my mod which was designed specifically to balance combat and make the game challenging. It's called Arcanum Equilibrium Rebalance, it's on the terra-arcanum downloads section in Arcanum Main Module Expansions.

Is it compatible with UAP? Did you by chance tweaked also the AI? The things my followers sometimes do are disturbing ;)
1. Yes of course

2. Yes but there's only so much you can do in that case. What I could do was make them heal more often, flee less often, and spend their levels more wisely (all followers are useful now). I also made them cast more often technically, but in turn based it's still rare to see more than 2 offensive spells from a follower per fight.

Overall it balances the game, while making it harder, and still keeps the feel and general way of things intact.
I'm curious if you can mod the game so you can manually control all followers during combat. This would make the game a lot more enjoyable. I swear to god, Virgil is a secret member of the Molochean hand. Today while I was at 10% hp and dying of poison, he looked me strictly in the eye and cast heal on himself while he was at 80% health. He also loves to stab/stun himself in combat while he is the only conscious party member left...

Just for this line, I went and upvoted your post.
You can't control followers manually.

You are more right than you know.
