Ya know what bethesda do next? Buy the arcanum IP and make a third person/first person arcanum 2!!!! Who's with me on that??
Apparently Troika had been planning a sequel to Arcanum called "Journey To the Center of Arcanum" but it ended up getting canceled. I think that would have been pretty cool though.
I think you're referencing Fallout 3, in which case I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you.

I wasn't much of a fan of FO3 and I think unfortunately the days of quality isometric CRPGs are behind us. The same magic can't be captured, IMO, in other formats.
If it's isometric turn based and party based crpg, then perhaps. If another oblivion with guns hack and lash fps then no.

Yeah, like Bethesda can make a fallout 3 out of this game too!! Imagine a first/third person Arcanum 2 for the PC/PS3/XBOX360, with guns AND swords, and with ladders that you climb with the action key!!! !! I'd buy that!!

Except Bethesdas game engines can't handle ladders or rather they've yet to figure out how to make AI handle them. ;-)

Why There Are No Ladders in Fallout. Bethesda engine can't handle ladders.

Bethesda's current engine is the new id tech, the engine that powers Rage. So that logic is now fail.

The article is recent, and ID Tech 4 may not have ladder handling capability in the core AI components. Alternately, a RPG-style game might use the render engine and replace the AI portion entirely with their own code. The article notes that the issue isn't rendering and navigation support, but AI pathing -- and very very few games have AI that handles general-case ladders well if at all. In RPGs, pathing failure can be game-breaking rather than just annoying, so it makes sense to just steer clear and design spiral staircases or other compact, non-ladder methods of ascent.

Id tech should have ladder path-finding. It did in older versions, would be strange to take it out. But your right we don't know. I'm not sure it's game breaking though.,

Well, what I was trying to say by "game-breaking" vs not was that in an FPS, if an enemy screws up chasing you on a ladder it's not a huge deal, while if an escort target (for example) in an RPG gets stuck, suddenly the mission can't be completed. I've had similar problems in RPGs before because I tend to be a little "out of the box" with my strategies, and I may come up with routes or plans that the AI can almost-but-not-quite follow. :-/
How about a new steampunk RPG with a magic vs technology theme that has nothing to do with Arcanum? Don't get me wrong, I love Arcanum, but gaming has changed so much since Arcanum's day that any sequel would feel like a completely different game. Tying it to a game like Arcanum will only disappoint Arcanum fans (such as myself).

There is "A Farewell to Dragons".

Then Bethesda is the best to make such sequel. They could pull a FO3 with it!!!
