Every time I go into the game options and try to increase the gamma it gets brighter for a second then resets right back to looking as dark as it was by default, this keeps happening no matter where I move the gamma slider. If I go into the GTC and increase the gamma there then I start the game up, it seems brighter, then goes right back to being dark. By default the game seems to have extremely low brightness settings and so I can't see a damn thing, even if I turn my monitor brightness as high as possible its still so damn dark that the game is very irritating to play. Anyone know of any possible solution to this?
I don't know why your gamma setting immediately resets, I'm afraid, but I can tell you that not saving your gamma setting is normal behavior. Anachronox always returns to it's default gamma in the middle of the bar every time I launch the game.

Perhaps changing the value for "set u_gl_gamma" in settings.cfg (~/Anachronox/anoxdata/SAVE/GLOBAL/) to something else and making the file read-only could help. Oh, and if you didn't already know, it may help to know that using plus (+) and minus (-) on the numpad will adjust the gamma correction at any time in-game. I always press plus a few times every time I launch Anachronox. As many times as I can without washing out the colors horribly, anyway.

Backslash (\) fast-forwards, the functions keys (F1-F11 or so) perform several helpful functions, and I'll leave you to figure out what Pause does. ;)
FWIW, the only thing I've found that will work is to install ReShade and use LiftGammaGain to boost the Gamma up to where I can actually see. In case anyone else runs into this.
